Oil Trail Leads Trooper to Hit and Run Suspect – Faces Numerous Felony Charges
SPRING HILL – Last night we reported that at least seven people were injured in a crash on Commercial Way at the intersection of Pine Forest Drive. Today we learned that the accident was actually classified as a hit and run with injuries and the suspect is now behind bars. ORIGINAL REPORT
According to reports, the Florida Highway Patrol began investigating a two vehicle crash that sent 9 people to the hospital with various injuries – none of those were reported as serious. During the investigation, Trooper Brandon Hoaglan interviewed Cheryll Remsen, who said she witnessed a black Ford F150 traveling northbound rear end a Hyundai, which then propelled that vehicle into the rear of a Dodge Caliber. Remsen says instead of stopping, the truck made a U-turn over a grassy median and fled southbound on Commercial Way. Remsen attempted to follow the truck but when the driver began speeding and driving recklessly, she backed off. A tow truck driver with Xtreame Towing was able to catch up with the suspect and follow it to a residence located at 18824 Whiterock Lane in Hudson.
At the conclusion of the crash investigation, Trooper Hoaglan responded to the neighborhood where the suspect fled, and as he pulled into the community he noticed a trail of oil which led directly to the suspect’s home. Sitting in the driveway of the residence was a heavily damaged pickup truck, matching the description of the one that fled the scene of the accident. Trooper Hoaglan made contact with the suspect, 66-year old Arden Glenn Ober at the front door of his residence, who appeared visibly intoxicated. Ober told Trooper Hoaglan that he was sleeping all day and had not driven at all. Due to the overwhelming evidence, Ober was taken into custody and transported to the Hernando County Jail.
Ober faces 9 felony counts of Hit and Run with Injuries and 2 counts of Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage. Ober remains behind bars at this time, held on $47,000 bond.
