  • How many dead people, how many families destroyed, how many lives changed for ever does it take to get a light put up in Florida? It seems to me lifes are cheap here in the South, Up north we place more value on safety the light would have already been in place saving lives!

  • It’s not banning all left turns. The intersection in and out of the Outback was recently redone to prevent these types of accidents. Several intersections in Hudson were also redone. No one should be able to turn left onto Hwy 19 at this intersection. It is not constructed in a way that makes this safe. You could have 4 people pulling into the intersection at on the time and it’s impossible to guess where each of those other drivers are going to go. You have speeds in excess of 55 mph, a hill that blocks views, and the potential for 8 cars to be attempting something at this intersection at one time without any form of traffic control. When I moved here 10 years ago the traffic was significantly less going through here than it is now.

  • To Dee, since September of 2016 UNBELIEVABLE AND I have harped every holiday and accident incident about DRIVE DEFENSIVELY. I believe 1) you stole our line and 2) we are all beating a dead horse as my mom used to say. No one is at home in brain department nor are they listening.

  • Thanks for the correction. People are always jumping to conclusions like they did with this poor lady whom who you said was only a nurse who stopped to help and yes it could happen to anyone young or old. I find nobody here in Florida gives anybody a chance. Your even backing up out of a parking space after seeing nobody around you and they suddenly show up out of nowhere and won’t let you continue out of your spot. I come from up North but I hate driving down here where nobody cares that there is another car on the road.

  • The woman did not hit him it was an old
    Man from the heathers

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 11:18 pm
  • The old man should be put away

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 11:10 pm
    • Amy …. not a very compassionate comment, perhaps one day you’ll be lucky enough to be “old”. Guessing your parents will age also – should they be put away also ?
It was a horrible unfortunate accident….

      Tuesday, 17 July 2018, 11:38 pm
  • If you have a son old enough to be a Marine, you must be pretty close to SS age which is what most people call THE OLD FARTS. Drive carefully sir.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 10:53 pm
  • I saw the deceased man on the ground, being worked on. We must’ve driven past right after it happened. It was truly horrific to see and has affected me a lot. We saw the off duty EMT giving the victim CPR. I saw a pool of blood by the victim’s head. He appeared to also have a broken leg. I pray for his family.
As for the woman/man who hit him, I hope they get charges pressed against them. I drove from Gainesville and during the last 30-40 miles, I can’t even tell you how many IDIOTS were pulling out in front of traffic that was going 50/60mph. Stupid stupid stupid. It was ridiculous. I cried my eyes out for what I saw because I knew that man was dead but the woman in the picture doesn’t look affected at all. 😡

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 7:40 pm
    • Elizabeth… it’s called shock – no just looking uneffected

      Tuesday, 17 July 2018, 11:35 pm
  • Just so everyone knows it was not the woman driving. It was an older gentleman by himself. It was an accident. I was one of the bystanders that witnessed and preformed CPR. The older man is EXTREMELY TORN UP ABOUT IT! The man on the bike had no helmet on and wasn’t hauling but. It was honestly a accident. Unfortunately a person lost their life today and I am praying for both sides and their families.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 7:17 pm
    • Do you realize how accidents happen? Carelessness, distraction, lack of attention…all of which are inexcusable.
Oh, im sorry..it was just an accident? Really (attention to details)?

Accidents are caused by stupidity by the person who caused it and in this case, his stupidity killed someone. The driver caused the accident.
If the motorcyclist ran into a tree, then he caused his own accident, but this isnt the case.

And for the 20 year law enforcement retired guy or girl out here, if you guys would do your job and make a presence out there, instead of sitting at construction sites or bullshitting at your favorite hot spots, maybe people would pay more attention to their driving instead of driving aimlessly around town with no regard to traffic laws.
90% of all motorcycle accidents are by people who say “i didn’t see him coming”
Because I was to busy texting changing the channel on the radio, or haven’t had my eyes checked.
How many idiots out there with blasting radios would hear a horn, or ambulance coming?

I ride, every day like a Navy Seal…ready for Battle. You have to, otherwise you will get killed by idiots like this.

      Sunday, 15 July 2018, 10:37 pm
  • That part of US 19 should not be 60mph because of the proximity of sub divisions and food markets. The run north of the school to Citrus County is fine. They should have a light at the Heather and Also Glen Lakes. 60mph should be reduced from there to SR50 to 55 and lights installed. But that still wont stop anyone from pulling out in front of a motorcycle in that area or anywhere else.

Face the facts, people aren’t paying attention the their driving habits. Young people are texting and looking at their cell phones, older people think they are the only one on the road, and if there’s someone in their path, they believe they automatically have the right of way.
When this happens, these people should be charged with vehicular manslaughter….period

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 7:09 pm
  • That’s an idiotic imbecile comment no skid marks what the hell do you know helmet please okay maybe the guy just pulled out in front of him just as he was at the intersection and there was no time you are a complete moron

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 6:54 pm
  • No motorcycle skid marks? Basic physics says you cannot control a motorcycle if either wheel stops spinning! You’re going down.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 6:33 pm
  • People don’t watch out for motorcycles. This driver probably will walk out with a reckless driving ticket instead of vehicular homicide. Need to watch. This is why my husband and I quit riding

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 6:17 pm
  • Look people, it takes two. While there have been many accidents at this intersection and others, drivers are responsible.

I am retired law enforcement with 20+ years of professional accident investigation and I hesitate to type here, but you must realize that a light here and everywhere will not stop certain drivers from pulling out into oncoming traffic. Sadly it’s most of the time an age thing. Just this morning I was bicycling in Glen Lakes down a straight main road and as I approached a side street a Lincoln town car with an elderly (80’s) man was stopped at the sign and he even made eye contact with me before pulling directly into my path at point blank range. Fortunately I was able to ditch into grass while he just rolled away clueless that he tried to kill me. It happens too often. At an intersection like the Heather, volume dictates the need for a light, and that could be close enough for one, but it won’t change the fact that you can see near forever in both directions when you go to pull out of there and yet people still pull right out in front of others. Takes defensive driving too a whole new level and as I tell my kids, “always, every time, expect the unexpected” and don’t think having the right of way makes you ok.

    Two, really three solutions;
    1. Add a merge lane to northbound 19 for both pulling out from the median and the adjacent street, or,
    2. Eliminate left turns from the Heather and the adjacent street and force driver to use the u-turn lanes, which is what I and most sane people do when the traffic is too high, and,
    3. Make a “real” driving exam a requirement and enforce it for drivers above 70 or when referred by a doctor or law enforcement official whenever ability or judgement may be in question.

Also sadly, the engineers who redid this road are the same geniuses who brought us the lane to nowhere except accidents when coming north on 19 passing across route 50. There should never have been a third lane on the right approaching the light when you have a merge lane coming from 50 with only a yeild sign. That merge lane and turn lane for the shopping center should not have a main lane of a major highway bearing down on it. What on earth were they thinking! Since 19 continues north as only two lanes, they should have safely brought it from three lanes to two just after the Northcliffe intersection and after adding a merge lane there too where many pull out of Northcliffe making an allowed right on red only to get blasted thinking there was an acceleration lane, which is logical to assume since the turn on red is allowed from an incine and when you look you see the deceleration and turn lane approaching the intersection.

Fix these before more people die.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 5:54 pm
    • Some of your comments I agree with especially the merging lane on Hwy 19 & 50 heading North. That can be very dangerous and should be changed ASAP….however I’m 100% opposed to making it illegal to make a Left Hand Turn in the State of Florida. This state has spent hundreds of millions of dollars making Left Hand Turns not possible. It is insane, stupidity and causes more grief & aggravation than any other road issue in the State. Not only is it very costly to the taxpayers, but it causes drivers to have to take action into their on hands…if I owned a truck I’d drive over the medians, barriers and or whatever they put in place to block making left hand turns. To the best I can remember, Florida is the only state in the USA that tries to ban turning Left. Ridiculous!

      Monday, 16 July 2018, 12:05 pm
  • The woman in the picture standing next to the driver is a Nurse who stopped to see if she could help the victim. Upon seeing others trying to help the victim she walked over to see if the MALE driver of the car was OK and if HE needed help. In the picture she is trying to comfort him because he was in shock. STOP your judgement and cruel comments people, it could happen to you too…regardless of AGE!!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 5:53 pm
  • Because having traffic lights every mile on a state road with speed limit of 60 miles per hour is senseless. People need to pay more attention to their driving and to other drivers. This is called Defensive Driving

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 5:08 pm
    • Even when traveling on a highway such as 275 and that road goes close to or past resedential areas, the speed limit fluctuates. There would have to be lower speeds on 19 by Walgreens, Publix, Glen Lakes. Then enforcement and a bunch of tickets later might slow people down. I live in the Heather and just the other day I waited for a clearing for me to get into the median to allow me to turn left. While I was waiting to turn left, another person who lives in the Heather gave me the finger for being in the median. Mind you I was not in his way as he made his left turn after giving me the finger. I guess that made him feel more like a man (a man no class). People seem to feel that whatever the speed limit is, they should go 10 or 20 miles faster. There must be money at the end of their rainbow!

      Sunday, 15 July 2018, 10:48 pm
  • Prayers/condolences to all involved…..
Wow. According to some posts on here guess there is no need for a trial or a police investigation. They already have her under the jail and all that was needed were a few pics to determine that and that they’re from up north. Unfortunately accidents happen. If anyone says they didn’t do something stupid behind the wheel they are full of crap. It just didn’t result in an accident or loss of life. Thank goodness cars are coming with lane assist. Wish all cars had them. There have been times when I’m driving and a motorcycle flies by and I never saw them until they passed me. Can’t we just give our condolences and hold judgment until after the investigation? Look at Florida’s laws regarding older drivers and you’ll see how stupid they are. Calling people old farts etc. does nothing to help keep the community safer. Instead of that one second of gratification you get by calling names try doing something to create change to help keep the community safer or fight to change laws.

  • Seriously. .? No license : no skills? I don’t even think this is the issue here! A life was lost in a split second. He froze?? Possibly. As he never had a chance. I’m sure that old man pulled right out right in front of him. That poor guy had a chance like a snowball in hell. Let’s get real. The old man is 110 guilty. This poor family. Maybe a son? Maybe a father? I missed that accident by 5 minutes. It’s a death corner. But to question skills?? No helmet?. You sound like a fool. Everyday I go out that entrance. I will see that poor guys body lying there. Just so sad. And I watched as that man just walked away and got in his sons car. And that other poor soul was taken off to the morgue. Some down here are just way way to old to drive. Prayers for that family to the man laying dead on 19.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 4:51 pm
    • What’s too old to drive ?

      Tuesday, 17 July 2018, 11:44 pm
  • Buy a camera and install on your dash. I am making a video to show just how great and safe it is to drive in Spring Hill.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 4:23 pm
  • Wow, how incentive can you be. A family lost a loved one. Show some respect or don’t say anything. Prayers for all involved🙏🙏🙏

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 4:17 pm
    • Let’s try INSENSITIVE instead of incentive shall we. Think before driving and texting please.

      Sunday, 15 July 2018, 11:43 pm
  • Todd- it could have been one of your family members like it happened to me, my brother. Bikers lives matter. People are in a hurry. All they care about is getting there. In their haste, they kill others. Motorcyclists. My brother James was killed by a distracted driver in Travis county Texas, January 2017. He did not know what hit him. My brother was not in any way at fault. The lady, failed to yield the right away and she turned left into him. She could have seen him. She could have heard him: he was on his Harley. He went to the morgue. She went home. She did not get her blood tested for alcohol/drugs. She was a pretty lady in a Cadillac. She got a $50 traffic ticket. She did not even pay his funeral. She expressed no remorse. I couldn’t live with myself if I killed someone. Our laws protect favorites. People & authorities have biases and prejudices to motorcyclists. They are expensible to them. People should pay attention & slow down. I am sorry for the bikers family. We haven’t yet gotten over losing our brother. I know the bikers family will be in great pain. We still are. I am very sad for their loss. Put the driver in jail. Make them do community service. Make them take a motorcycle awareness course. Have them send a card to the family every holiday, on the victim’s birthday, on the date of death, on the anniversary of the accident..show remorse.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:32 pm
  • Do you really think that he had much time to react to the situation, a side impact hmm maybe just enough time to get it sideways to avoid the accident but not enough to clear the car.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:19 pm
  • To Todd Counters, did you not read the second paragraph???? The Chevrolet driver pulled in front of the motorcycle!!!! YOU wouldn’t have time to brake or create skid marks if they pulled in front of you!!!! And if motorcycle is on U.S. 19 the speed limit is 50 mph (60 mph in spots) he was legally driving. I ride and know you would not have time to react if the driver pulls in front of you when you are right there. Stop with your stupidity already and your prejudice to bikes and bikers. Also, to your comment on damage to Chevrolet do you know how much these bikes weigh??? Quite a bit. So, YES there would be damage at 50 mph. BTW the driver if Chevrolet sure looks MALE to me in 2 out if 6 pictures!!!!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:12 pm
  • We came up in the wreck and saw the EMT trying to do CPR on the man in the riad. So very sad! I pray for his family! How terrible to get this phone call!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:09 pm
  • What is wrong with you people? This is a tragedy for all involved. If ya weren’t there keep your old fart crap to yourselves. Grow the hell up!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:04 pm
  • When a car pulls out in front of you, you cannot stop. As far as the damage to the car, the sheet metal on them is very thin. Not a way to measure speed. No helmet is a choice the rider made. I have had drivers look right at me and still pull out. They do it to cars and bikes. They pull out in front of commercial truck and expect them to stop on a dime. Don’t blame the rider. Everyone need to pull more attention and not be in a hurry.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:04 pm
  • They will still go if there were 3 lights. No knows what lights and stop signs are

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:03 pm
  • Just because there are no skid marks doesn’t mean he wasn’t paying attention. Somebody pulls right out in front of you and there’s going to be a lot of damage to the car. I don’t know how you know if he was wearing a helmet or not. It might have stayed on his head. All riders must undergo a mandatory rider training course in Florida that includes classroom training about safety and also hands on skills practice
and they take their test on the last day of the course.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 3:03 pm
  • Are you retarded?

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:59 pm
  • You know just because the damage may look bad to you does not mean the bike was speeding. Last time I checked when you have a stop sign you stop and look both ways. You say the biker was inattentive how about the car should of been attwntive. Ignorance is bliss.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:58 pm
  • I’ve had similar situations, but avoided Injury. All women drivers! Just sayin.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:56 pm
  • First my condolences to the family of the victim, very sad. 2nd, I laughed at the ridiculessness of the flashing lights when they first appeared and this is a prime example. It’s not the people driving north and south on 19 that cause the accidents, it’s the idiot’s pulling in and out of the Heather. In a great deal of people I see leaving there, I see a serious lack of concern for the health welfare and safety of other drivers. They just pull out without even looking to see what’s coming, I’ve been nearly T-boned twice myself. It’s dangerous and as much as I hate to say it, there needs to be a light. I mean really , how many dead bodies does it take to get a light?

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:46 pm
  • So sad seeing his body lying on the highway. Something needs to be done at this dangerous intersection!!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:40 pm
  • Prayers for the victim, victim’s family and friends.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:38 pm
  • I agree, we shouldn’t make common before the investigation. My husband was on the road at the time of the accident and was also a motor cycle driver, for most of his life and we agree when a individual gets to a certain age they should not be driving.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:33 pm
  • Maybe a traffic light works have been a better choice any 5 years ago when they started building more and more cars on 19? A traffic light could have saved many lives verses flashing lights. I show down at this flashing lights I never see any other break lights.
Hope they install a traffic light

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:29 pm
  • It’s not just old farts that can’t drive I see people of all ages in this country who cannot drive they’re texting they’re not paying attention they just don’t care about the fact that they’re operating a 4000lb machine and have no consideration for anybody else on the road I’ve been driving for 20 years with 0 accidents because I anticipate other people doing something stupid Its a damn shame prayers for everyone involved wise up hernando please

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:23 pm
  • If you look close there is a man sitting in the driver seat and she is standing there so before you pass judgement on her maybe you should know the situation!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:23 pm
  • And still they say we don’t need a light, that makes them stop, not blinkers

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:18 pm
  • Until today I have been against the light at this intersection, but I am beginning to believe that people have lost the ability to use common sense when driving. They can no longer make critical decisions, we have to provide safety measures to make decisions for them. I live in the Heather and have never used this intersection to turn left or to cross the road when there’s other traffic. There are too many variables.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:15 pm
  • Major damage to the car from the bike going at an excessive speed? No skid marks from the bike indicating an inattentive motorcyclist or that he froze up? Apparently no helmet, showing lack of concern for the biker’s own safety? Did he even have a license or any skills training? Who knows?
Maybe the old lady is the real victim?
Six photos don’t tell you shit.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:14 pm
  • Its not just the old people. I drive 19 everyday and see these motorcycles going way over the speed limit they go through the intersection right down the middle to get to the front then they gun it. Weave in out traffic. 9out10 are doing dumb. So cant feel too bad. Oh well

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:14 pm
  • Did you realize someone else is behind the wheel & it’s not her?? Again assuming. Prayers for the deceased and his family and all involved cause I know I wouldn’t want to kill anybodyw

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:05 pm
  • Look close at the vehicle….looks like a male sitting in drivers seat! Don’t think female was the one driving!

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 2:01 pm
  • I was South bound in the traffic flow (app 1/2 block back) when yet another fatality occurred in front of the Heather development. I have now seen 3 major accidents in this exact same area in since February. The state put up warning flashers on 19 in both North and South bound lanes approaching this interaction but will not invest in a set of stop lights at this location or Hexam Road, WHY?

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:58 pm
  • Prayers for everyone involved! Including the woman who hit the motorcyclist. Accidents happen. Unfortunately if it had been two cars it would have been a fender bender. My husband and I ride ATV’s and motorcycles. It is a risk we take. This woman wasn’t planning on taking a life today. May she find peace. Prayers for the motorcyclist and his family.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:49 pm
  • It is a man sitting in the drivers seat. The woman is probably his wife. 🙁

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:49 pm
  • Ridiculous accusations from people who know nothing about this accident…old fart, snow bird, sleeping, not paying attention, texting…within hours of this accident local hypocrites respond with this nonsense. It is sad that no one waits for facts. Accidents are just that…no one plans them. Give sympathy to the victims including the driver.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:49 pm
  • I’m sure that will haunt her for the rest of her life. Condolences to the victims family.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:42 pm
  • she looks like she don’t even CARE. Dumbass selfish bi$ch.

    Sunday, 15 July 2018, 1:35 pm
  • Prayers for this family…I use to love motorcycles, but even more I use to love baseball. Once you feel the devastating affects from a brain injury, most can’t or won’t go back to their game, or in this case their bikes. Its like football. If your child plays football, their getting sub-concussive hits “every” single time their playing a game. Why play the game? Your killing your children ! Motorcycles kill people, people kill people on motorcycles. Why take the risk?? You can say….”Oh, this will never happen to me”!! I meet those people “all” the time in our traumatic brain injury support group. Not only has it changed the injured or deseased bikers life, it has also devastated the entire family forever. Some come to our group with their caregiver looking totally, physically normal, although what their experiencing is anything but normal. They sit down and ask me, “why am I here”? I tell them… “I have a traumatic brain injury, and I believe, maybe you have a traumatic brain injury”, and this is a TBI support group and we help people understand their brain injuries”. They sit their with a dumbfounded, confused look on their face. They look right at me and say, “I don’t have a brain injury”! Many have a “total” denial, an unawareness that anything is wrong. They loose their jobs, their homes, family and still can’t figure it out and never will be able to figure it out. I use to love to play baseball, but I’m “never” getting back into a game, because the risk of another concussion or worse is too high of a price to pay . Before you decide to set your passions on a motorcycle, think of your Mom, Dad, your wife and your four children that you have at home. “If” my motorcycle went down, how would it affect me and my family circle. Is the risk worth the ride?

  • I think, if you’ll look closer, there is a man sitting in the driver’s seat of that silver car; the woman is merely standing beside him. Look closer and get your facts before you open your mouth and let your stupidity fly!
RIP Biker … God’s peace to your family!

  • Ya know, your statement is just the kind of ignorant crap that divides us all. WTF does where that lady is from, matter? What if she was a native born Brooksville woman? Would that even make a difference. A young man is dead because this woman killed him. Am I pissed at her? You bet your ass I am. I rode a Harley for years and I am a retired Firefighter who has seen these kind of horrible scenes over and over. But never once did I ever give two less where the driver was from. You can be a old driver no matter where you’re from. Shame on you for making this sad ending of a young man’s life, about North and South. How ignorant!

  • If you expand the pic you will see a man sitting in the car. He might not be an old fart.

How many deaths will it take before they install traffic lights there? Those stupid yellow flashing lights they put up a couple of deaths ago, are useless!!

  • Very sad…condolences to friends and families. The driver of the silver Chevrolet should go to jail for vehicular manslaughter. Obviously sleeping, not paying attention, texting or talking on the cell phone. I ride daily and see these type of drivers all the time. They don’t realize how difficult stopping a motorcycle in a short distance can be.
Another motorcycle disaster in Hernando County!

  • Prayers for the victim’s family and friends. Prayers for other driver. It’s a horrible thing to be responsible for this. Witnesses apparently saw and testified as well as tried to administer aid to no avail. Rest in peace.
