One Injured in Rollover Crash, Airlifted to Trauma Center

BROOKSVILLE – One person was injured in a single vehicle rollover crash this afternoon, shutting down traffic in both directions of Cortez Blvd for several minutes.

There are unconfirmed reports that the vehicle crossed over the median from the eastbound lanes, plowed through a fence, and then rolled over, coming to rest against a tree.

Several witnesses ran to the victim’s aid and held the vehicle on its side until first responders could shore up the vehicle, preventing it from rolling over.

The male driver and only occupant of the vehicle was extremely combative with rescue personnel as they attempted to strap him to the gurney.

The victim was airlifted to a nearby trauma center where his condition is unknown at this time.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.

  • Commonsense /Catapano / Tony / Roger, just load up and go back to New York, demolishing derbies, routing happening. Your substandard education is showing through!

  • I have never lived in a place that has so many rollovers and it’s happening almost every day, Even in demolishing derbies they don’t roll their cars, Is this just a Florida thing or has rolling your car mover become fashionable here in Florida..

  • Kathy before Bayonet Point got its trauma license you would be flown to st.pete or tampa trauma centers if your condition was called a trauma alert.
Hernando county does not have a trauma center at any of the 3 hospitals we have. If you are in severe condition the medics have a golden hour rule so you are best treated at a trauma hospital.
    hope that helps some

  • why are all accident victims airflighted out of spring hill/Brooksville? all the hospitals here and none that can handle trauma patients? ridiculous! I fell and got 3 stitches and they sent me to bayfront in st pete by ambulance. now I have extra charges I cant afford. maybe that’s why he’s combative, in addition to the head trauma

    • Because of the lack common sense, We have 3 hospitals here in Hernando County so what are they good for, Taking splinters out of your finger. going there with an upset stomach, Sure they take care of heart attacks and strokes but they also should be able to handle other injuries related to auto crashes

  • This is as local as your gonna get. The stations in Tampa don’t cover motor vehicle accidents unless it’s something news worthy and out of the ordinary. In the Bay Area there are over 100 accidents a day. A good resource is Florida highway patrols website if you want to know if there’s an accident with road block in the direction your going.

Also the sheriffs site shows active calls but it’s useless with out showing the location which I hope they consider in the future. Most other agencies in the area show the locations

    Wednesday, 8 June 2016, 1:26 pm
  • why we don’t get this type of news locally?

    Wednesday, 8 June 2016, 1:14 pm
    • Why, Because it’s become just a routing happening around here now.
