OnStar Disables Stolen Car, Deputies Arrest Two Juveniles without Incident
SPRING HILL – A pair of juvenile car thieves out of Citrus County are now in custody, thanks to the quick actions of Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies and a little help with OnStar technology.
Around 3:45 p.m. this afternoon, Citrus County officials alerted Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies of a stolen vehicle traveling westbound on Cortez Blvd. Citrus County relayed information to the exact location of a stolen gold Chevy Malibu, which by now was approaching Commercial Way. A Deputy observed the vehicle in the southbound turn lane and waited for backup to arrive in the area. Meanwhile, Citrus County advised that OnStar would be able to slow the vehicle to a stop, once a Deputy was behind it. And that’s exactly what happened next.
Around 4:00 p.m., the vehicle stopped at Commercial Way and Northcliffe Blvd, when OnStar disabled the vehicle. Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop and took a male and female juvenile into custody without incident.
