Pursuit of Stolen Van Turns Deadly – Woman Faces Murder Charge
HUDSON (PASCO) – A woman who is no stranger to law enforcement, crossed a deadly line from thefts, burglaries, and drug possession – to murder – after an incident on U.S. 19 yesterday.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, a man was killed last night after attempting to confront the driver of a work van that was reported stolen out of Hernando County Wednesday.
Officials say the owner of the van and his brother-in-law, 45-year-old Antonio Pereira spotted the van in front of a cabinet and flooring supply store, located at 16823 U.S. 19.
Pereira exited his vehicle to try and make contact with the driver, 33-year-old Bethia Politis. When Pereira approached the van, Politis accelerated and struck Pereira. He was transported to nearby Bayonet Point Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
Politis was taken into custody and charged with felony murder and grand theft auto.
Politis has faced numerous charges in Hernando County, dating back to 2013.
The identity of the van’s owner has not been released.
