Rain and High Tides Close Coastal Roadways – Flood Watch Continues

HERNANDO – A flood watch remains in effect until 4:00 PM today, as heavy rains continue to pour down across the Nature Coast.

The latest report from the National Weather Service shows rain amounts reaching 3.00” through Tuesday morning.

Although tidal flooding caused road closures at Cortez Blvd and Pine Island Drive, Cortez Blvd and Bayou Drive, and Tropical Drive and Shoal Line Blvd, there have been no major reports damage.

Roads are expected to flood again today, as the next high tide could reach 3 to 5 feet in some areas along the coast. High tide is expected around 4:00 PM today and around 5:00 PM tomorrow.

Officials recommend taking the necessary precautions to protect life and property if you live in low-lying areas along the coast.

  • This is the bad we have to take with the good…. The price we pay for not needing to shovel snow in the winter!! Florida is still ‘paradise’, even if my little beach cottage gets some water… that’s why I pay insurance! It could always be worse.

  • I’m already flooded. I’m just glad my boat has an automatic bilge pump……..but, the heavy waters have broken the water pipes outside. I’m waiting on Hernendo County Utilities to come out and see if they can fix them with the ground so saturated 🙁 I wouldn’t move for any amount of money, this is just something we have to deal with. Thanks so much Mother Nature !!!!
