RNRF Helps Deputies Locate Hit and Run Suspect, Video Shows Suspect’s Reaction to Camera
SPRING HILL – Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Landover Blvd and Shefflield Road this evening, after several people fled from the scene of a hit and run crash involving two vehicles.
At least one person was injured and transported to Oak Hill Hospital for treatment but her condition is unknown at this time.
Within minutes of the crash the juveniles were taken into custody but the driver was still zig zagging his way through neighboring streets.
RNRF happened to pull in behind a Motor Unit (Motorcycle Deputy) on Timbercrest Road and noticed the suspect driver duck down behind some trees. I motioned to the Deputy and pointed in the direction of the suspect, who then jumped off his motorcycle and chased the suspect towards a retention area behind Northcliffe Baptist Church. The suspect gave up without further resistance after the deputy drew his weapon and ordered that he stop.
When the suspect noticed my camera he said “Holy S**t am I on COPS?” As the deputy escorted the suspect back to the roadway, the suspect said “Please don’t use this on T.V. that would be really cool.” And finally, while awaiting transport to the jail the suspect said “Please don’t put this on COPS if this is what’s happening.” A nearby deputy explained, “You’re live on Real News Real Fast.”
According to jail records 21-year-old Derrel Levern King of Hudson was booked into the Hernando County Jail. Although the exact charges have not been released, sources tell RNRF that King will face charges of DUI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident.
We will bring more on this story if new information comes available.
