Search for Violent Sex Offender Underway in Weeki Wachee

WEEKI WACHEE – The Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help in locating an absconded sex offender, who they believe is extremely dangerous.

According to officials, 49-year old Dennis Cox disabled his monitoring device and walked away from his home, located at 9375 Bearwalk Path, in the Winding Waters Subdivision at 2:17 a.m. this morning.

Cox did not take his vehicle when he left in an unknown direction. Cox is listed as a violent felony offender and he may be suicidal. Deputies are currently searching the surrounding areas and they have notified nearby schools. It is not known at this time if schools have been placed on any level of lockdown.

Cox is described as a white male, 6’, 180lbs. and has short grey hair and brown eyes.
