Sex Offender Off the Streets – Neighbors Say Good Riddance

SPRING HILL – A convicted sexual offender is off the streets and neighbors say good riddance to a man they say has terrorized the neighborhood for months.

Around 4:00 p.m. this afternoon, Detectives with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office raided the home of 54-year-old Jeffrey Hernandez-Colon, located at 6200 Skyline Court. Officials have not released the details of the investigation at this time; however, one neighbor revealed a possible kidnapping incident that took place earlier this week.

The neighbor, who wished not to be identified, tells RNRF that a woman burst through her front door, screaming for help, claiming that she had just escaped Colon’s residence, where she had been held captive for at least 24 hours.

The neighbor says Colon grabbed the victim’s bags as she entered her residence, but she was able to break free and lock the door before Colon could make entry. Officials have not verified the kidnapping allegations and it is not known if Colon will face related charges.

Several neighbors say Colon is known to be extremely violent and often fires random shots from a handgun in the street.

At this time, the only charge listed on the Hernando County Jail Website is a sex offender violation. He is currently behind bars – held on a $20,000 bond.

We will bring more on this story as it develops.

  • I have no tolerance for sex offenders and people who would harm children…I am of the caste that those who do such things are not just mentally ill, they are wicked and perverted. In the old days these people would be dealt with appropriately and proportionately with their crimes, which to any sensible person shoud be an obvious conclusion. That kind of behavior is not normal at all and these people just do not “tick” like normal people and in my opinion, never will. All that being said, as someone who loves my country and the freedom which we increasingly enjoy less and less of I am very wary of over powered government and misinformed people. Our legal system is such that justice is an element which can rarely, if ever, be found there. And we live in a time and environment where all one has to do to be arrested is piss the wrong person off and be accused of anything…even in the absence of facts. The truth is you are not innocent until proven guilty and you are presumed guilty until you pay to show you are not, if you can afford it. The laws of our land are fast becoming so restrictive and numerous that many people commit crimes every day and are not even aware they have done anything wrong. And as for weapons, the people’s right to keep and bear arms is a RIGHT- NOT a privilege, and the current law of the land, the Constitution, dictates it shall not be infringed. Although for how long the Constitution remains so is questionable. More gun laws will solve nothing and disarming everyone who has ever made a mistake in their life is a mistake in itself and the beginning of total disarmament. Keep in mind the powers that decide exactly what a felony is and so on. More to the point, a person who perhaps made a mistake when they were a teenager by committing some act(s) of skullduggery whether by drugs or theft should not necessarily be banned from having their RIGHTS for the rest of their lives! It’s insane to think that’s ok. Are you the same person today you were 20 years ago? This is not all to say that there are not reasons and people who should not have guns, because there most certainly are, but the rules governing these issues are broken and wrong. Something as important as the right to protect yourself and your family should not be able to be permanently wiped away from a moment of indiscretion in your youth, as has happened to many people. Sure, there are some instances where the ban on people owning weapons should be imposed indefinitely but most certainly in only certain cases that warrant such an action. And as for convicted felons not being permitted anywhere near guns, how many parents own guns that are safe and secure that may have a teenager who has run amok of the law but allows their child to live at home. Should we allow the police to raid these people’s home and further charge their child and them for allowing their child to live at home because they own guns? Even if their guns are secure and not accessible by their children? These are serious issues today because like it or not, we currently live in a political atmosphere were if the current administration had its way, ALL guns would be banned outright! I hate when people just talk about everyone who is a convicted felon as if everyone who may have gotten into some trouble at some point is a pos and has no rights. That attitude is wrong and has no place in a free society based largely on second chances and freedom. Another thing to consider is that the campaign to disarm everyone started a long time ago with acts just like that which seeks to ban convicted felons from owning guns for life. It was merely a stepping stone for larger legislative goals to eventually disarm everyone. And with it being so easy to commit a felony nowadays it doesn’t take much to find yourself on the wrong side of the law. Even in cases where you have done nothing really wrong at all. A persons RIGHT to keep and bear arms is sacred and integral to a free state and when that RIGHT begins to be infringed, so does the freedom of that state as well. Again, I wholly agree that there are people that should not have guns…unquestionably! But such an act should be done on grounds that actually merit that action based on the actual actions of that person. And aside from critical and few instances a person should ALWAYS have the ability to regain his or her RIGHTS when they can demonstrate they are worthy of having them and capable of doing so without infringing upon the rights and freedoms of others.

  • Agree with you completely Ms Jana Rae, many criminals flee the states they have convictions in.

    Saturday, 23 January 2016, 9:10 pm
  • FYI Jeffrey Colon has been arrested for second degree sexual assualt in another state and was sentenced could have been srntenced to 15 yrs, I believe he did 6 and then did something while on parole, spent another 156 days in county jail, at some point started listing his address here in spring hill. So with that said, 1st degree sexual assault, if convicted of that involves murder, he was convicted of 2nd degree which is bad Just thought some of you who think he is a good guy should know. This is a matter of public record and you can figure out the state for yourselves if you care too. Glad he is off the streets and hope they keep him locked up. Like I said the police weren’t there that day for a cup of tea we may never know why, but I do know what he has done, no I don’t know him, just a good private eye and researcher. Have a good evening.

      Friday, 26 January 2018, 9:47 pm
  • He should be castrated…

    Saturday, 23 January 2016, 1:42 pm
  • OMG just because he is a sex offender doesn’t make him a bad person, unbelievable statement. This borders on ridiculous . Of course he is a bad person. ONE observation is a 17 yr old going with an 18 yr old is trailer trash, if that same girl lived in a Hugh beautiful house, would you call her house trash? Don’t even bother to answer idk, stick up for the predators no wonder so many rapes and molestation go unreported,

  • I live in the same neighborhood as this Guy. I agree with some of you. Just because he is a sex offender doesn’t make him a bad person. This guy is a creeper though. I know of one family that moved out because of his strange behavior and others considering moving. I hope that if he is guilty of all the those potential crimes he does his time. From the number of investigators, Sherrif, and forensics that were at his house they must have been investing more than just a violation. I am happy to know that the neighbor hood is free of creeper and his Strange behaviors.

  • Wow, @charlie @Dalek, that’s crazy but yes it does happen. I have a friend that I’ve known since high school and he was 18 and girl friend was 17 and she wanted kids but he didn’t and of course she’s trailer trash and parents are druggies and alcoholics, told the sheriff office that he was pushing her to do things. It was all bullshit and now he’s a sexoffender for the rest of his life. Now everyone wants to jump to conclusions about sexoffenders there all kid molesters and blah blah blah. I’m not defending this guy but dam… Think before you say. And I tried looking him up on the clerk of court and found nothing about him, so maybe these charges been dropped due to neighbor lies.. Just saying

    Friday, 22 January 2016, 9:37 pm
  • Like Dalek said, I have a friend that when he was 19 he had a 17 year old girlfriend. Her parents had money and influence and had him arrested . He is now a sex offender and get this He is married to the same girl he supposedly committed the offense with and has been for over 16 years. Not defending this, guy but it does happen sometimes.

    Friday, 22 January 2016, 6:35 pm
  • Y’all do know that you don’t have to mess with children to be considered a sex offender right? Not defending him but it don’t mean he likes children

  • For all of you defending this nut job, you are living in a fantasy world! They pulled enough evidence from his house to arrest him and have been investigating him for months! There are a lot of children in this neighborhood and we don’t even live near him. They deserve to be safe. Regardless of his past offenses he didn’t get arrested for no reason! Wake up people! Quit defending the criminals and start defending and protecting your real neighbors.
Once a con man always a con man! Of course he is going to be nice up front…..duh! What is wrong with you all WAKE UP!

  • @tony, yep all the dirt bags live in spring hill, did you bring them all with you when you came from , where was that again? Move back if it’s so great there. Smdh

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 6:08 pm
  • If he’d have done what this “neighbor” said he did, there would be charges against him. Hernando doesn’t wait to get facts, they just go off of hearsay. Sounds like neighbors starting s*** for this dude. I check the offense reports every day and have seen nothing about what supposedly happened but then again Hernando likes to hide that kind of s*** too.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 4:54 pm
  • Ain’t this dude living in a drug infested area too?

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 4:46 pm
  • Really hard to believe all the dirt bags that reside in Spring Hill and it sounded like such a nice place to move to, What a mistake.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 4:13 pm
  • Scared society
    More like stupid
Nobody will step up and take care of these monsters other than create a trailer park and pack it full of their kind. Or let them move into our neighborhoods and register WHATEVER when they snap look out
Read in the news awhile back a pedofile was begging the police in custody to give him child porn to watch

  • Even if this POS sex offender doesn’t own a gun, if he is living in a home of
which the person he lives with owns a gun he is still subject to arrest for
    possession of a gun.
A convicted felon is not supposed to be around guns, even if it does not belong to the felon.
That is my understanding according to a friend who is in law enforcement.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 2:19 pm
  • I saw this yesterday, so incredibly scarey how close to home this was…3 blocks from me and my street has close to 15 kids under 15 yrs old. My kids keep asking why they can’t ride their bikes to school, this is why…there are 8 registered sex offenders between my house and the school. ..and those are just the registered ones. What a scarey society we live in.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 11:53 am
  • Isn’t this near a school zone as well? If it is, what does this say about the screening and registration process?

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 8:14 am
  • Did they find a gun? Did the neighbor call the police after she helped the kidnapped victim? If so, why did they only charged him for a violation?

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 8:08 am
    • I got the victim

      Friday, 26 January 2018, 9:51 pm
  • Wakeup where is the utopia at, hang em

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 7:25 am
  • Kam, probably got his gun at a gun show where any felon (or mentally ill) can without a background check.. Someone we know is trying to close this loophole,or if you watch Fox News, violate the 2nd amendment and take your guns away.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 6:29 am
  • @kam We obviously need more gun laws.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 6:24 am
  • I live across from him, and have for years. Both him and his family have been nothing but kind and helpful to ours. When he moved in yes, we got that flyer that everyone gets in the neighborhood to show that he was an offender. But he’s always been kind, the first one to help out if we needed anything and quite frankly the ONLY neighbor to help out when we needed anything. He’s NEVER shot a gun in the middle of the street during the day or at night. He doesn’t even f*****g bother anyone. He stays in the house the majority of the time. The only time we’ve seen him out, is when he lets his two Chihuahuas outside, to help his parents with groceries, help his dad with yard work, or wash the family car. To all my other neighbors saying he’s violent, and shoots guns in the street, and extremely violent, a big giant f*** you! That’s false. I’ve been living in the same house for almost 20 years… He’s done jack s**t in that time.

    Thursday, 21 January 2016, 5:51 am
