Shooting Victim No Victim at All – Now Charged with Armed Robbery
BROOKSVILLE – What started out as an Armed Robbery and Shooting on C Street yesterday, has a new twist, and the alleged victim is now facing his own string of felony charges. ORIGINAL STORY
According to a statement from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, hours after the C Street shooting, detectives learned that Hillsborough County Authorities were searching for the victim of an Armed Burglary that occurred around 2:00 p.m. in their jurisdiction. That “victim” was none other than 21-year-old Shaquaille Delaine, the same person who claimed he was shot during the Armed Robbery on C Street.
According Detective Larry McKinnon with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Delaine and accomplice 23-year-old O’Shay Hawkins entered a residence at 916 E. 120th Ave (Tampa). At the time, the residence was occupied by Charles and Damita Williams who say Delaine and Hawkins threatened them with firearms. Charles armed himself with a handgun and began shooting at the two suspects – striking Delaine in the leg. During an exchange of fire, Charles was struck multiple times in the legs. Charles was transported to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries and later released.
Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested O’Shay Hawkins at his residence located at 735 Lazy Oaks Ln. A search warrant was conducted at this residence which later produced the firearms used during this crime. Additionally, approximately 1 pound of marijuana and an assault rifle were located and seized from within the residence. Hawkins refused to make a statement to investigators.
Early this morning, Hernando and Hillsborough County Detectives located Delaine at an apartment on Darby Lane and placed him into custody without incident.
During an interview, Delaine admitted to his involvement in the Hillsborough County shooting and lying about being the incident on C Street. Delaine told detectives that he was covering his tracks so that he wouldn’t get in trouble.
Delaine is charged with Armed Burglary, Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Assault out of Hillsborough County, and Making a False Report in Hernando County. Delaine remains behind bars at the Hernando County Jail – held on a $250,500 Bond.
Hillsborough County Officials are expected to release a full report.
