Springstead Stuffs Pasco in OT
By Danny Aiello Jr
For the second straight week, Jordan Wright led an outburst from the Springstead offense, and the Eagles didn’t turn it over en route to a 44-43 overtime victory against Pasco.
Wright set a season-high in rushing with 95 yards, scoring on runs of 27 and 8 yards, while also hitting TJ Owens on a 9-yard score for Springstead (3-5, 1-3 6A-6).
Owens added two rushing touchdowns (52,3) along with 72 yards on five carries, while Randy Morgan chipped in 119 yards on 11 carries and an 86-yard touchdown.
Despite trailing 20-7 at the half, Pasco would come storming back in the second half, led by quarterback Mike Pentix who was 12-of-21 for 136 yards and touchdowns of 18 and 6 yards.
Tied at 37 at the end of regulation, the game really began.
Springstead got the ball first and on 3rd-and-goal from the 8-yard line Wright took over. Rolling out he saw nobody open and decided to run for the goal, diving from the two-yard line for the score. The PAT gave the Eagles a 44-37 lead.
Pentix had an answer, as he had all night, finding Jakiah Felder cutting the lead to 44-43.
Instead of the game-tying PAT, Pasco went for the win on a 2-point conversion.
Pentix tried to run it in but was stuffed, sending the Eagles home happy, and with momentum for their season finale at county-rival Weeki Wachee.
