Springstead-Weeki Wachee and Week 11 Action!
Danny Aiello Jr & Derek J. LaRiviere
Week 11 of the High School football season is upon us, and now it is the final countdown. The final week of regular season football is already here, and we are ready for a playoff push! Welcome to Pigskin Prophets where Derek J. LaRiviere and myself break down all the high school football action for Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties. New this week, gone are the messy columns that you, the reader, didn’t like and replacing it is a table so you can easily follow who we selected! Be sure to follow the prophets on twitter, and take us on in the comments with your selections!
Game of the Week: Springstead (3-5) at Weeki Wachee (4-5) 7:30pm
Aiello Jr: Weeki Wachee, 35-34
LaRiviere: Springstead, 28-21
Derek’s Breakdown: In the final week of the regular season, it’s a poetic match up at Weeki Wachee. Neither the Hornets nor Springstead would have thought they would be under .500 going into the final week of the season, but as disappointed as the two teams likely are in their overall finish, both sides have plenty to be happy about if they can finish with a victory. The young Eagles have looked strong in the past couple weeks with big victories over Dunedin and Pasco, while Weeki Wachee already has the highest win total in program history. These two rosters won’t have a lot of turnover going into next season, so a win in Week 11 could vault these teams into the offseason with a great deal of confidence.
Danny’s Breakdown: Springstead has dropped 50 and 49 points in their last two contests, and Jordan Wright looks to be comfortable leading the offense. However, the Springstead defense is banged up, and it is yet to be seen if the Springstead offense is for real, or just riding a hot streak. I think Shawn O’Gorman and Alec Cromie help Weeki Wachee squeak out a close one for the home team on senior night.
Byes: Hernando (3-7), Ridgewood (5-5), Wiregrass Ranch (2-8), Wesley Chapel (2-8)
OVERALL RECORDS (LAST WEEK): Aiello Jr: 82-45 (7-5), LaRiviere 92-35 (8-4)
