Starkey Park Wildfire Grows to Over 2,200-Acres, Suncoast Expected to Reopen
UPDATE: 12:00 P.M. – The Suncoast Parkway is open in both directions.
LAND O’ LAKES – (PASCO) – What started as a 5-acre wildfire, quickly grew to over 2,200-acres on Saturday, inside the Starkey Park Preserve.
Yesterday Officials closed a portion of the Suncoast Parkway as strong winds pushed the blaze closer to the roadway. Fears that fire may jump the Suncoast prompted a voluntary evacuation of the Bexley Ranch subdivision but that has since been lifted.Firefighter have the near 2,300-acre wildfire about 50% contained and with lighter winds officials expect to gain better control of the blaze.
The Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol are coordinating to reopen the Suncoast Parkway today.
