The Sheriff’s Office has released the following statement regarding the incident, which includes the suspect’s identity.

On 08-17-15 at approximately 10:46 a.m., Hernando County deputies responded to the SunTrust Bank located at 13137 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville in reference to a Robbery.
9-1-1 operators received information that a white male in his late 20’s or early 30’s wearing all black had just robbed the bank.  The male left the bank carrying a black backpack.  The male was last seen leaving the area on a bicycle.
After locking down the facility, bank employees immediately retrieved video surveillance footage of the suspect and provided it to detectives who were arriving on scene.  HCSO Crime Analysis personnel took still photos from the video surveillance and issued an “Urgent Alert” to all personnel.
Deputy James Boylan, who patrols the area, saw the Urgent Alert and recognized the individual as someone who he had checked out with a few hours earlier.  During that encounter, Deputy Boylan completed a Field Interview Report (FIR) on the individual, obtaining a complete name, address, telephone number, etc.
Immediately, Deputy Boylan notified units on the Robbery scene the identity of the suspect and his last known address.
Meanwhile, the HCSO Aviation Unit and a K-9 team were working together; tracking the individual from the location where he dumped the bicycle he used to leave the area of the bank.
Deputy Brandon Cox and K-9 Judge were tracking the suspect when Chief Pilot, Corporal Dave Calianno (in Air-3) observed the suspect run into a building on Grove Road which was later identified as his residence.  The building was determined to be WestBridge, a Center for Integrated Treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders.
Deputy Chris Croft was of scene within minutes to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect, Brendan Timothy Evans W/M DOB/10-17-1986 was placed under arrest.  He was charged as follows:
–    Robbery
–    Bond – $25,000.
It is believed that the bicycle that Evans was riding was stolen; however, no reports have been filed yet.
Deputies recovered the backpack that Evans was carrying after an extensive search of the area.

  • Bill Buddy…you’re incorrect on a few things. For one, rich people are also arrested, however they have the money to be bailed out as quickly as possible. Additionally, at least 75% of all prison, and jail, inmates have a diagnosis of a mental disorder such as: addiction, depression, bi polar, PTSD, etc. The difference with WestBridge is that these patients have family (or benefactors) that can afford the “best of the Best.” Whether their program works or not so that their patients may become productive citizens is totally up to each and every individual patient…same as any other program. BTW Billy Bud…before you comment on the post of others and refer to them as, “half educated trying to justified (justify-is the proper word) their waste of careers,” I suggest that you first complete your GED. Just saying…Lol!

  • Say what you like about Westbridge, but this is exactly what the local residents predicted when they when they fought the rezoning of this property. Should have never been in a residential area. I wonder how many neighborhood kids this bank robber passed on his way back “home”. I wonder if one of them will get his bike back.

  • The statement that ” Just goes to show people from all walks of life commit crimes.” is funny only the poor go to jail.. If your rich you have a mental disorder…these people belong locked up. but its always fun to hear the babble of the half educated trying to justified their waste of careers.

  • I can say with confidence they are allowed to roam in and out. I can also post pictures I have saved in my phone of them loitering at the bus stop last school year. Smoking ciggs talking on cell phones with random cars stopping for short periods of time.
When we challenged the zoning changes the developers admitted it was not a Lock down facility such as springbrook. My husband stood in the court house and asked what was stopping participants from walking to 711 and drinking beer in our woods or what happens when their benefactor doesn’t pay for the next week stay…they assured us although it was not a level 2 facility (meaning residents havefree will to enter and exit as they please) this would not be an issue.
The participants have been seen crawling under the fence to get out undetected…obviously to do something they don’t want the employees knowing about.
I work in the medical field…I respect the fact people need help and adequate treatment. But, I don’t think you would agree with “mentally ill” participants being in your back yard or roaming your streets unsupervised.
I wish they would reevaluate their policies for everyone’s safety.

  • I’m a former employee of West Ridge and I must say I left under unfavorable conditions. Having said that, I’d like to say that this agency holds high regard for their participants and everyone within the community. The employees there come from all walks of life and care for everybody as if they were their own family member. Although I left under bad terms I cannot bring myself to say anything negative about this establishment. They are truly a blessing for these families as well as for the individual day Taser. This scenario clearly is isolated and I pray that this young man gets the true help you needs.

  • @rob:: it’s safe to say that you didn’t get the job based on your posts and inaccurate assumptions! WB is a well respected company that truly cares for the safety of those they care for! It’s clear they recognized a flaw in your interviewing skills hence, you didn’t get the job.

  • It is very sad that individuals who have no real clue of what WestBridge is all about are commenting. Also, it shows that these individuals who are commenting have no sense of dignity or humanity. Clearly, the people that are participants at Westbridge are ill and in need of help from what I know, these individuals are not allowed to come and go as they please so the facts are definitely misconstrued on this blog!

  • His mug shot is on purpose to look nuts. He sure looks sane in his arrest photos. He knows how to play the system.

    Tuesday, 18 August 2015, 2:32 pm
  • I’m guessing its because that nut house is ripping off their benefactors.

  • Why bother robbing Sun Trust? At 50K @ month, maybe rob your benefactor.

  • Yes. This place needs to be shut down or regulated better. I live in this residential area and street where it was built. We appealed and fought to prevent the zoning changes and lost. It was built in the middle of our small community.
Now we have them loitering at the elementary school bus stop smoking ciggs, talking on cell phones and making drug deals. They are allowed to roam freely in and out and have had several break-in and robbery of vehicles in our driveways.
The phone call and earlier interaction with the sheriff this am that provide his info was bc of an run in and attempted assault on our own street!
This facilities profits should not outweigh my children’s safety.

    • Jails are treatment centers for mental health problems?

      Monday, 17 August 2015, 10:07 pm
  • I interviewed at this facility and they call their patients “participants” . The place is run like a country club cult and the “participants ” are part of the hiring process (and don’t tell you until after the interview “) These patients are from wealthy families and it’s a six month program. The place is unsafe with patients coming and going at all hours of the night. Wealth can not mask mental health.

  • $50,000 a month? Dang, his parents must be even more insane than he is.

    Monday, 17 August 2015, 7:12 pm
  • Danger Dave…it means he has a mental disorder with an addiction, ex. schizophrenia and drug addiction. If this guy lives at Westbridge, means he has wealthy parents. Westbridge is a private treatment facility for men with a dual diagnosis, they don’t take insurance so you’re looking at the minimum of $50,000. a month to be there. They have private rooms, a pool, tennis courts, gym, etc. even their own private chef. Look at their website and you can see how exclusive the place is. Just goes to show people from all walks of life commit crimes.

  • Wtf does”a Center for Integrated Treatment of Co-Occurring Disorders” even mean? This new PC world we live in is bull s**t. Dude is obviously crazier than a sprayed roach. Judging by his mug shot he is really happy to be wearing a paper jump suit and looking forward to the next 5 years of prison life.

  • So…I stand corrected. I would not have expected one of the Westbridge residents to be involved in something like this. I guess things have changed since I dealt with them
