Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Between Steel Poles, After Striking Multiple Vehicles
BROOKSVILLE – A multi-vehicle crash led to one arrest this afternoon, after the driver of an SUV struck two vehicles before crashing through a sign in front of the Vista Park Senior Apartments on Cortez Blvd.
There are unconfirmed reports that 52-year-old Lamar Allen Gano was traveling eastbound on Cortez Blvd when he struck two vehicles and then crossed over the median into the westbound lanes. Gano continued across all lanes of traffic and then crashed between two steel poles that support a large road sign.
Witnesses say Gano appeared to be intoxicated when he exited the vehicle and needed assistance to stand up. Sheriff’s Deputies immediately placed Gano into custody before turning him over to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Damage to the other vehicles appeared to be minor and there are no reports of injuries at this time.
The owner of the vehicle tells RNRF that Gano does not have a valid driver’s license.
Gano has been booked into the Hernando County Jail, however, his exact charges have not been released.
