Suspects Connected to Several Armed Robberies – Dramatic 911 Audio

BROOKSVILLE – Sheriff Al Nienhuis met with reporters this morning where announced the capture the second suspect in yesterday’s armed robbery of the Dollar General in Ridge Manor. According to Nienhuis, investigators worked through the night attempting to locate the suspect, who was found hiding in the area of Rackley Road and Saturn Road, less than a mile from where he fled from a vehicle. Officials have not released the identity of the suspect; however, through our own investigation Derek Kelly and the now deceased Michael Hilber (Pictured below) are most likely the two suspects.

While fleeing the scene of the robbery, a witness attempted to block their pickup truck under the overpass at I-75. The suspects damaged the man’s vehicle and battered him trying to get away. The witness was not seriously injured. A second witness followed the suspects to the intersection of Saturn Road and Endsley Road, where they abandoned their blue 2000 Chevy pickup truck.

Nienhuis says while searching the south end of Rackley Road, Sgt. Matt Lillibridge and K-9 Deputy Steven Miller, both long time veterans of the agency, used deadly force during an encounter with Michael Hilber. Both deputies are now on paid administrative leave as standard procedure.

Nienhuis says both suspects are wanted in connect with string of crimes across several states, including an incident earlier this month in New Hampshire, where Kelly dragged a police officer several feet along a roadway, as the officer was attempting to serve an arrest warrant WMUR News 9 Report.

Nienhuis also believes Hilber is responsible for a Subway Restaurant robbery in Sarasota two days ago and possibly several other Tampa Bay Robberies.

Ironically, just last week in the area of South Broad Street, near Southern Hills Plantation, numerous deputies, including several K-9 units, conducted simulated fugitive pursuits, in which deputies were “shot” as part of a real-time scenarios.

  • Great Job HCSO…You Rock!
Koodos to all of the people that are calling the people out on their ignorant post!
I wish we could just get them from commenting on the stories all together because frankly the comments are more upsetting then the stories themselves.
Management needs to double up on employees at these stores, no individual should be in one of these dollar stores alone

  • Teddy P that was by far the most idiotic post i have ever seen man. Great job HCSO take these thieves off our streets in body bags if need be!

  • the call taker did fairly well considering they dont get armed robbery calls every day like the big cities do. They can only get better with practice. The first call taker (female) was obviously new as another one took over the call. put yourself in their shoes they can only train so much but the real training is getting actual calls and no one call is the same for them. Good job all involved!

  • Ej, have you heard the phrase, Freedom f the Press? Tom has the right to reveal the names unless he is instructed otherwise by Law Enforcement. Was that all you could think of ? How about Great job HCSO and RNRF for the coverage, as it kept the public aware of the situation as it was happening, therefore keeping those who live nearby safe and alert. Some people just make the most ignorant remarks just for the attention and to be heard.

  • Tony, a couple of your northern friends!

    Thursday, 24 December 2015, 7:41 am
  • Dennis I also seem to remember the sheriff was investigating one of their own (without a complaint) for excessive use of force. Story was just a couple days ago….. And you still complained about it! Of course under the screen name johnny. You are still the guy who smells poo on everything everywhere without sense enough to wipe his lip.

  • Dennis Purdy aka johnny p aka teddy p…… Forced to use deadly force was good enough explanation for me. Since you hate where you live so much (but to ignorant to move) you can just stay in your cave with your laptop and be a hateful little troll (with a hundred screen names).. Or crawl out into the light and do something positive….. Maybe volunteer… Or…just get a life you sad little man.

  • Let’s just stop acting like a cop goes above and beyond his duty every time they do their job. The only ass was the idiot who tried to block the criminals..follow and report by cell..don’t risk life. Hernando has police

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 10:50 pm
  • Hey Escomo Boat….. First of all, no I don’t hate cops! Secondly, yes I am very well aware the suspects had weapons and committed an armed robbery. Finally. If the suspect displayed a weapon when confronted and/or refused orders then he should have been shot no questions asked.

My point is as usual, Nienhuis does not elaborate and only tells a story that will benefit himself and the agency. If the suspect had a weapon or did something stupid when approached by his Veterans then he should of said that in his press release. Any other Sheriff would have given the basic facts. Nienhuis just says what the public wants to hear to make himself look good. Something fishy with him and his administration!

  • Dennis purdy “teddy p” you already mentioned your conspiracy theory on ***********. You stated the cops have no proof these were the suspects and shot an unarmed man. Do you have a thing for criminals? Like a bad boy thing?

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 7:05 pm
  • Teddy p… Hates cops… Smells conspiracy theories everywhere… Hates Hernando county… Hates life…. How are you Dennis Purdy?

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 6:48 pm
  • Teddy p… I smell a special kinda stupid. The sheriff is covering up the senseless murder of an innocent, misunderstood, ARMED ROBBER? Really?

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 6:45 pm
  • Listen to the audio. They had a gun. Who knows if they both did or one, but who cares !! Why do you have to complain ?? Did you feel safe as he was on the loose presumably armed, but certainly dangerous !! Next time something like this happens, why not put a uniform on and get the scumbag yourself if you think you can do a better job!! A**wipe !!

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 6:42 pm
  • Shut up Teddy P- the criminals had weapons. If you commit any crime the responsibility of the result is your own. They used weapons to steal money endangering the life of the Dollar General employee. Don’t commit the crime if you don’t want to risk losing your life. Too bad.

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 6:38 pm
  • Did everyone also notice how the great Nienhuis just says “his long time Veterans of the agency were forced to use deadly force but fails to say “why”. Did the suspect have a gun, a knife, or some other deadly weapon? What is it Nienhuis? I smell another cover up at the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 6:05 pm

    Wednesday, 23 December 2015, 2:10 pm
  • If the Sheriff’s Office did not give the suspects name, why would you take it upon yourself to give his name? It is THEIR investigation, not yours. Stand aside and let the Sheriff’s Office do their job!
