Sweepstakes Business Shut Down After Investigators Discover Illegal Gambling Activity
SPRING HILL – After two alleged armed robberies this year, vice and narcotics detectives have shut down a local sweepstakes business suspected of illegal gambling.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, investigators revealed that Lucky U Sweepstakes located at 5165 Commercial Way had multiple computerized games inside the facility.
Because Lucky U provided cash payouts to patron’s officials say they violated Florida Statute.
Money laundering, tax evasion, fraud, and other illegal activities are often associated with these businesses.
During the execution of the search warrant, detectives seized $4,883.03 in cash, multiple computers, and numerous documents relating to the operation.
There were no arrests today, however, officials say they are forthcoming.
There are unconfirmed reports that the owners of Lucky U are associated with other similar businesses in Hernando County that may be involved in the same illegal activity.
