Three Children Among the Injured in Early Morning Crash

SUMTER COUNTY – Four people were injured this morning, one critically, after a car collided with a semi-tractor trailer on SR-471.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Jennifer Budd was traveling southbound in her Honda Civic, just north of Gulledge Lane, when she lost control and swerved into the northbound lanes. A semi-tractor trailer, driven by 53-year-old Kirk Whitehead was traveling northbound, when the Civic collided with the rear wheels of the trailer.

Budd sustained Critical injuries and was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital. Three children ages 6, 12, and 15 were also injured; the 6-year-old was listed in serious condition at the time of the crash.

Whitehead was not injured.

Charges are pending according to officials.
