Three Local Marching Bands Advance to State Semifinals, Springstead Competes at Tropicana Field
HERNANDO – Three area high school marching bands competed against over 80 bands from across the state Saturday, in the Florida Marching Band Coalition Semifinals held at two Tampa High Schools. But only one school would hold on for the Final competition, to be held later that evening at Tropicana Field.
Weeki Wachee beat out Hernando in the 2-A Division Semifinals but neither band would advance to the Finals. A total of 20 bands competed at Gaither High School, where Somerset Academy, Northside Christian, Seminole Ridge, and South Miami all advanced to the Finals.
In the 3-A Division, Springstead High School’s Marching Band competed against 16 bands at Plant High School, and later joined Palm Beach Central, Duncan Fletcher, Lake Minneola, and Miami Coral Park to compete in the Finals.
After nearly 18 grueling hours, five marching bands walked away victorious but Springstead would fall short of the top rank in their Division.
The top five FMBC Marching bands are Mater Academy (1-A), Northside Christian (2-A), Palm Beach Central (3-A), Jupiter (4-A), and Park Vista (5-A).
