Traffic Stop Yields Five Arrests, Cocaine, Heroin, Meth and a Gun
SPRING HILL – The Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of five individuals, after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a variety of drugs and a gun.
According to officials, just after 8 p.m., Deputies Anthony Belmonte and Blake Vanderford conducted a traffic stop on a green Buick at the intersection of Kenlake Avenue and Waycross Drive.
Deputies stopped the vehicle because the front seat passenger was not wearing a safety belt, and the tag not assigned to any vehicle.
When the driver of the vehicle pulled over, the front seat passenger, later identified as 33-year-old Jacob Murty, opened the passenger door and fled on foot. Murty failed to comply with Deputy Vanderford’s commands to stop but he was soon apprehended and brought back to the vehicle.
During the chase, Murty threw an unknown black object on the ground, which was later determined to be a loaded 9mm handgun.
A search of Murty’s person revealed a prescription bottle which contained a clear plastic baggie with “eight ball” logos on it. The baggie contained a white crystal-like substance which later tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 0.6 grams. The prescription bottle also contained two yellow pills, which were later identified as Alprazolam, a schedule four drug.
Numerous deputies arrived on the scene and began interviewing the other occupants of the vehicle.
Deputies spoke with the driver of the vehicle 36-year-old Joshua Beard, who immediately stated “I haven’t had a license in a while.” Beard allowed deputies to search the vehicle, where they located a black backpack with a baking tin inside. Inside the baking tin, deputies located a white, powdery substance, which later tested positive for cocaine. The backpack also contained a ten-pack of Sudafed and a small scale with a black, tar-like substance on it. The tar-like substance tested positive for heroin.
On the floorboard of the vehicle, deputies located a metal spoon with a black tar-like substance on it, a green silicone container, with a black tar-like substance on it, a metal spoon with a pink chalk-like substance on it, a clear glass smoking pipe, and numerous plastic baggies. One non-capped syringe, three makeshift tourniquets, and three capped syringes were located in other parts of the vehicle.
