Turnovers Cost Bears in Finale
By Danny Aiello Jr
Despite leading 13-0, Central turned the ball over seven times en route to a 21-13 loss at Anclote Friday.
Ryan McCane found Emmanuel Scott on a 52-yard touchdown, and Terrance Delaine returned a fumble 55-yards to put the visiting Bears up 13 right after the half.
De’Vonta Smith ran for 226 yards for the Bears, but fumbled six times. After being up 13-0 late in the game, Central (3-7) finally had their miscues catch up to them as Brandon Vinkler hit Carlos Yglesia on a 6-yard touchdown to give the Sharks (4-6) their first lead of the game.
Vinker, who had two rushing touchdowns to go along with his passing score, sacked Smith causing another fumble, that Anclote pounced on.
An 8-yard rush by Vinkler would seal the game, putting Anclote up 21-13 late in the fourth quarter.
Central will have the offseason to reload and retool under coach Chris Sands, who will look to have the Bears contending in the county next season.
