Twice-Convicted Murderer Confesses to Stabbing Roommate to Death

HOLIDAY (PASC0) – Pasco County Detectives are investigating the murder of a 42-year-old woman who was stabbed inside her home on Trask Drive.

According to officials, 71-year-old Warren Birkbeck confessed to stabbing Denise Cook to death around 3:15 a.m. inside their home at 3536 Trask Drive. Cook and Birkbeck were roommates who lived with a third roommate, an 85-year-old woman.

Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a press conference this morning, “There is no other way to say it, He’s a killer. He has a history of killing people.” Nocco says Birkbeck moved to Florida two years ago from Massachusetts where he was convicted of two prior homicides. In 1963 Birkbeck was convicted of manslaughter and again in 1999 he was convicted of second degree murder. Birbeck was placed on probation until 2029 after being released from prison in 2015.

  • Wow,holy twice before this i cant understand why he was released.maybe the family of his third victim, should sue mass.for releasing a twice convicted murder in society and pasco for allowing him to move here.as it is my understanding if he was on probation from mass.they would have to give him permision to move there.while it wont change the fact that a life was lost but the only way any governent agency is going to change letting killers free is if they take a finacial hit.

  • nice now the tax payers that work hard get to pay for all his food clothing medical shelter etc. imagine going back in time and saying yeah and in the future when you murder some one, all the hard working people get a portion of their money taken out of their earnings so that the criminal can live better than most of the vets that served this country. our ancestors would look at us like no way thats crazy. maybe in the future we should worship and idolize criminals next or does that happen now?

  • If happens all the time and innocent people suffer and die because of plea deals, soft sentencing and ridiculous probation standards. How on earth can a man be set free after only 15 years considering it’s his second murder.

  • You spelled detectives wrong. You said defectives. That might offend them…. And why would these two people allow this guy into their home? He’s been convicted TWICE and now confessed to his THIRD. Maybe third times a charm for the electric chair. I mean 3 people have lost their lives at this mans hands. I think its time his is taken away as well.

  • I have no understanding of this??????? How does a MONSTER like that get out of prison twice????? It seems like shoplifting for a third time gets someone more time then taking a life. Well he’s gonna face Florida’s finest Justice system this time, maybe he’ll get more then a slap on the wrist.
