  • Some drug abuse is a disease, and actual disease. Are you people going to say alcoholism is a disease but using certain drugs are not? The jail is filled with addicts that us tax payers , are paying to keep them there. Please don’t get me started on people locked up for possession of marijuana. That’s a different topic, but another waste of my tax dollars. Now dealing drugs, yes send them to jail, but these addicts, some were made addicts by doctors. They need help. And not sending them to a methadone clinic, getting them hooked on another drug.

  • Jodi, I would have responded sooner but took a long weekend at my place on the river, none of my family or friends are on public assistance. However, I know for a fact many people doing or selling drugs also receive public assistance. It should be taken away as soon as they are convicted

  • Drug abuse is not a disease, and Drug dealing is not a disease, they are both choices. No one has twisted their arms to do this. It is by choice. Stop feeling sorry for those who do not care. No matter how much rehab you give them they will most likely go back to their old ways. No one can be rehabilitated unless they themselves are willing and admit to their problems. That is fact.

  • Oh, Silly Willie, please, do not throw the race card at me. I wouldn’t care if they are pink with purple polka-dots, people need self respect, self control and self discipline before they can be anything, especially respectable!

  • Globalguy, I certainly agree. Drug trafficking is certainly a violent crime. How many people are killed in drug deals gone bad? Many. My daughter had 3 wisdom teeth pulled. They gave her 30 Oxycontin, I told the dentist are you kidding? I said no, that’s not necessary. So who’s to blame for the drug epidemic in this country, doctors, legislators, the court system who’s punishment is not harsh enough? I don’t know the answer, but many young people are losing the battle.

  • Just another normal day here in Hernando County.

  • Jodi Smiles, we live today in a society where most good people are afraid of saying anything because God forbid it comes out or across the wrong way or not PC.
As the government continues to spend countless millions each year on the war on drugs our president classifies drug dealing as a “non-violent” crime. The media goes into hiding as if we do not have a OVERT problem. Craziness or what?
Legal drugs, prescribed prescription painkillers such as OxyContin & Percocet have addicted so many (remember the lines at the so called pain clinics down here?) Most if these clinics were shut down and the cheering began but the drug cartels went into overdrive to bring cheap heroin into the USA. From 2013 to 2014 heroin use among Americans increased 51%.
Here is the real killer, over 28,000 Americans DIED from Opioid overdoses in 2014 (most recent stats).
I do not agree that the dealing of illegal drugs are non-violent crimes.

  • Global Guy, you hit the nail dead center! The choices we make determine the paths we take. It seems like the liberal thought of the last half century (try it, you might like it) has led more and more people to very wrong choices. Unfortunately, most of those wrong choices take years AND self control to correct. Too many people today just lack that basic thread of self discipline. That’s what’s really sad…..they have no self control, no self discipline, and ultimately no self respect.

    Saturday, 23 April 2016, 11:27 am
  • Well said globalguy

  • Those red dots on their faces sure aren’t flea bites..

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 8:48 pm
  • Jodi Smiles, the drug problem in the USA has NOT been “grossly ignored”. Do a bit of research and find out just how much taxpayer money has been spent on the “war on drugs” in the past 40 years.
Pre-school programs, Just Say No To Drugs & the FAST Program are just a few that are top of mind. I forgot the true total number of federally funded programs but it is well north of 25 & the amount of taxpayer money wasted has been over a TRILLION dollars. I say wasted because the money spent on all the drug programs has been taken from other well intended programs.
Unfortunately people make choices, bad choices have horrible consequences that scare for life (like these two people). The rest of the people in society who make better choices end up paying for your two friends who unfortunately made some terrible choices that we the taxpayers will continue to pay for.

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 8:11 pm
    • Globalguy, they are not my friends. My children grew up together. In order for these 2 people to get into a drug rehab in Florida, they need health insurance. They can’t afford health insurance even if they were working. They don’t qualify for medicaid, so what happens? Of course drugs is a choice, certainly. Not a choice I might understand but nevertheless a choice and a bad one at that. Say no to drugs is a cute little program that was implemented in schools 15 years ago. Has the program been updated since? The schools in Hernando County take you on a tour of the jail. Does it scare the kids enough to deter crime, no. So the only answer is the choice the individual makes. Unfortunately, we can all voice our opinion and I think we all agree this is a determent to society, but in the end a person will do what they want to do regardless of the consequences to them or others. Fortunately HCSO has a good team and is working very hard to clean up the neighborhoods.

      Saturday, 23 April 2016, 8:38 am
  • Give them forced rehab in the jail. They can find god, go to thier classes. Write letters to mommy about how they’re going to change. It wont happen. Junkies for life. They need a bar of soap and a new toothbrush. Junkies got the worst hygiene and they live like slobs.

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 3:10 pm
    • Sadly you’re part of the problem and don’t even see it/ There’s a reason drug law are being change and drug courts in effect.

      Friday, 22 April 2016, 9:52 pm

    • boo hoo hoo, drug abuse is not a sickness, its a choice and a weakness in character. real nice wishing and hoping it on other innocent people, you must be upset your dealer is out of commission now.

  • They need to stop letting Paul outta jail. This is is what 5th time being arrested for drugs… keep him locked up ! Pure scum, but I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, the whole family is trash ! Good job HCSO. Yet another junkie off the streets.

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 11:03 am
    • Brittany, I can’t help but wonder who you really are. Are you his ex Brittany, or maybe a girl that wanted to go out with Paul but turned down? He wasn’t always a drug addict. He, actually at one time was a great young man. Worked hard, very devoted to his mom and grandparents, drove a nice car, always wore clothes that were impeccable. He definitely stood above the rest. If you really knew Paul, you would know he’s never been arrested for drugs. He’s been arrested on misdemeanor crimes, driving without a license, etc. never drugs. Check the Hernando Clerk of the Court.

      Saturday, 23 April 2016, 1:09 am

  • Nice job!

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 2:13 am
  • Selling drugs is also a choice, not a disease. There is no such thing as a an addicted drug dealer.

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 12:16 am
  • Seems as thought Chelsea Collins has been in the RNRF headlines in the past. As for those who think these people need help, the only ones who need the help is the ones who keep saying this. It is not a disease. Drug abuse is a CHOICE, not a disease. Stop defending them. You can’t fix STUPID….

    Friday, 22 April 2016, 12:14 am
  • Actually Smd said it best!!! Hit the nail right on the head.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 10:17 pm
  • Stupid comments again,ok so jimbo clearly hit a wrong button, matthew the spell check police says he cant spell my opinion matt you look stupid not jimbo omfg, low bail?$74000.00 is low bail?you must be balling, talking like you walk around with that in your pocket, lmao.and the dumbass talking about how tired he is of tom,is someone holding a gun to your head forcing you to read this?to the other idiot saying they are drug dealers so they are not on public assistance,im willing to bet they did not claim the drug money as income and id also bet they both have a food card at the least.clearly from the pictures with the methface they both have they were selling to support the the habbit.last but not least who cares, they got 2 junkies off the streets thats the main point of this article.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 9:52 pm
    • Smd, they did not have food cards. They had drug money, that’s what they lived on. Aweful as it is. I’m sure many drug dealers/drug users have cards, but not these two.

      Friday, 22 April 2016, 6:02 am
  • @Jodi Smiles I will say a prayer for them lot of sadness in both their eyes hopefully rhos is a blessing in disguise for a step to a better future.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 9:51 pm
  • The sad part is these two were not always drug addicts. He comes from a good family, she was with a man for a very long time, they had a good life, she was a good mom, and then the drugs took over. I know this kid since he’s a baby. I’m glad he got arrested, he needed to be saved from something far worse. He will serve some serious time, and hopefully come out a man. I don’t think she’ll serve a day. She will clean up, and leave this behind her. Don’t be so quick to judge, we have all faced adversity at some point in our life.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 9:31 pm
    • Sadly people don’t seem to understand drug abuse hurts families from the rich or poor, It can happen to a cop who is taking a painkiller for a work-related injury.

Hopeful he’s able to get into the drug courts and not serve a ridiculous time for a non-violent offence. It’s sad the comments here treat this issue like you’re the scum of the Earth rather than a public health emergency.

      Friday, 22 April 2016, 1:56 am
      • Sean, none violent ? What about all that poison they were selling to kids ?? Give me a break !! It’s one thing to be addicted. It’s another to be a supplier and you sell to anyone that will give you the money. This is a major crime in my eyes. Just because they’re addicted, they have to get others addicted too ? B.S. Take those kids away until they get clean and have them monitored everyday. What if the kids ever got a hold of that crap ? Sorry, no sympathy for them here.

        Friday, 22 April 2016, 12:19 pm
  • Jodi, your the moron, drug dealers collect public assistance at an alarming rate

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 9:26 pm
    • backwoods hillbilly, how many of your hillbilly hommies have food cards and medical cards? Oh, i’m sure many. We are all entitled to voice our opinion, but on this subject, you’re wrong. No food cards. Does that matter anyway? These are 2 young people in the battle of their life, along with their families who have also battled this demon with them. I agree, there are now two less drug dealers off the street, but many many more behind them. Drug abuse is a tremendous problem in our country and grossly ignored. Before you speak, know your facts!

      Friday, 22 April 2016, 6:11 am
  • lock them, up

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 8:59 pm
  • So very sad. People like this need serious help. A friend of mine owns a funeral home and it’s unbelievable how many young lives he buries every year due to drug overdoze….so sad for their families too!

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 8:50 pm
  • Most of you are all bashing. Its clear these people were drug dealer’s but we’re also doing heavy drugs. Do you know they need help. Drugs is a desease. And you need to get the right help to get better. So before you all wanna bash get your facts correct. Not saying what they were doing selling drugs were ok. Because it’s not but when you are a drug addict you will do anything to keep feeding your own habit.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 8:49 pm
    • They did not become meth heads by accident. In order to become addicted you have to decide to commit a crime – buy and use meth or manufacture and use meth. They are not innocent victims, they are criminals

      Friday, 22 April 2016, 10:46 am
      • Amen Paul.

        Friday, 22 April 2016, 11:10 am
  • I don’t have a dog in this fight. Just wanted to tell Kathy Kay you’re a disgusting person for wanting bail raised. It’s a money racket that profits off human life. I hope you sit in a dirty cage one day and the only thing that’s keeping you out is MONEY because people like you are the only ones who deserve it. Your generation needs to die out so we can move on and fix this country you guys have destroyed.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 8:44 pm
  • .. those meth mites. Meth not too long ago was unheard of around here now its super easily available and highly abused/used in Hernando county. It will only get worse before it gets better.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 8:24 pm
  • Lmfao two scum bags off the street about time

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:49 pm
  • Tired of these tweekers…where do they get the stash from? Cut them a rehab deal and go for their supplier.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:40 pm
  • Why are their bonds so low? I know the cost of living in this county is low, but our criminals are getting out of jail to commit new crimes way to easily. Need to remember this when the election comes up.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:26 pm
  • You left out the babies that were living in this residence. Three children in their care. Despicable.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:18 pm
    • @Lyss TakeAchance, They should have thought about the Kids before they started doing and selling Drugs, Get a life please!

      Thursday, 21 April 2016, 9:01 pm
      • Two of the kids weren’t theirs.

        Wednesday, 27 April 2016, 3:58 pm
  • OUTSTANDING LOL

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:13 pm
  • What a waste.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:07 pm
  • Not here to judge but hopefully this will help them get sober and in turn save their lives.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:57 pm
  • Report actual new, not addicts. They’re going through a hard enough time already.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:54 pm
    • Let me guess, they were your supplier?, that’s Hard times? selling Drugs?, Try working!!

      Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:20 pm
      • Not at all. My step-son suffered from PTSD and recently died from drug overdose in the states. So I feel for theses two. Just wanted to say Jail nor news articles shaming them doesn’t help them with addiction, rehab does.

        Thursday, 21 April 2016, 10:22 pm
  • I will bet anyone that these two outstanding citizens of Hernando Country were on various forms of public assistance.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:52 pm
    • Hey moron, they’re drug dealers, they don’t need public assistance, idiot!

      Thursday, 21 April 2016, 7:44 pm
  • Seen the guy do a 3 way drug deal and switch cars at veterans park like a week ago

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:35 pm
  • If using methamphetamine does that to your skin – no thank you,

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:31 pm
  • Apparently you can’t even spell outstanding

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:20 pm
  • Now look at their faces and tell me if it is worth doing drugs. What a shame. Hope they stay in jail for a long time 2 clean up their act.

    Thursday, 21 April 2016, 6:01 pm
  • HOW MANY WAYS CAN YOU SPELL OUTSTANDIBG JOB ???????????
