  • If that was Timber Pines they would have a traffic light already

  • Besides the obvious .People need to start having dash cams or our insurance rates will skyrocket even more.the more people who have cams the more people can be prosecuted for there failure to know traffic laws and to know who was exactly at fault also it can help those who dont have cams in there cars as a many people are getting away with not being at fault (i know its a no fault state) for insurance claims. If it where mandatory to have cams in cars it might (i said might) persuade people to stop driving erratically.

  • Since the residents coming out of the Heather cannot drive responsibly then they should LOSE the privilege of coming out of there and turning left to go northbound. D.O.T needs to CLOSE the intersection once and for all, and make it a RIGHT TURN ONLY exit out of that neighborhood. It’s the only way to stop the insanity, and the bad behaviors of the drivers coming out of there. No more left/NORTH bound turns allowed is the ONLY way to stop the madness and save lives. Force residents to have to drive north a little further, then do a u-turn to come back to the entrance…and just pray that they DON’T pull out or hit anybody trying to do that!

Their track record proves they can’t be responsible drivers, so it’s high time the county steps in to stop the madness. Too little too late…

  • I live off hexam and work as far as manatee county daily. I tdrive and a ride a Harley. The heather and glen lakes bothers me. Stop lights are not the answer though. People in Florida just like my home town of Virginia Beach (military) people don’t know how to yield and show respect. Simple as that folks.

  • Two words. Cell phones.

  • Lady ran the stop sign and the car traveling south bound tee boned her. Just poor judgment

All these accidents happen in broad daylight

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 7:29 pm
    • I’d say it’s more of an attention issue than judgement.

      Monday, 8 October 2018, 2:54 pm
  • It’s not US 19 or the intersection. I have traveled through there many times with no problem. It’s the drivers (not paying attention, some too impatient, not yielding, not respecting that they are not the only car on the road). Don’t blame the road, but the driver.

  • Problem is people don’t respect the fact that cross traffic is doing 60! Don’t look twice and dis respect the power of impact at 60 mph and you’ll end up in a pine box. Darwin’s law…. If traffic was always backed up there and it was hard to get in or out of the Heather then I could see a need for a traffic light. I am against costly improvements to an intersection to protect the careless. It’s horrible to think I too could be a victim of the careless like so many have.

  • A flashing light or traffic light may not help much. People need to have patience and pay attention.

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 3:57 pm
  • People need to learn to yield for drivers entering traffic, running red lights, or going over the speed limit!

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 2:12 pm
    • there is no red light smh. dont talk about a location you know nothing about.. you can sit there any time of day and watch people run the stop sign all day every day. they come out of there like its the indy car 500 but wait until the very second you are near enough. Ive literally watched people blow the stop sign then stop and wait on us19 drivers side facing oncoming traffic instead of moving ahead. Its plagued with really bad drivers.

    • You got that right!!!!!!
Good Lord, dont people pay attention anymore or is everyone in a hurry to get nowhere……

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 7:06 pm
  • Wether or not it’s the drivers fault or the intersections half of you are uneducated, and drive just like those people, I enter the heather time to time and never see this happen, people just see a title and automatically talk shit straight out there ass. How about “ praying for there family “ or are you just here so you can get some attention from others. Toms website creates drama and changes other people’s outlooks on situations through his titles and descriptions honestly at some points slandering names. This website is honestly CNN for Hernando County. Let the real news handle it. Tom go get a real job and stop asking for money when I enter your site, you remind me of the junkies from pasco county.

    • Thank you for pointing that out. Yes I was wondering why all the accidents at this intersection get on this site, yet I see horrible accidents all the time North of hrreas well as at Northcliffe. If you research the statistics regarding Hernando County accidents the most dangerous intersection has historically been Mariner and 50… where there is a light. I wonder if it isn’t just Tom’s agenda to get a light here.

    • John Cabanna, if you do not like this site, why are you here? It makes me laugh sooooo hard when someone bashed this site, but yet they are on here reading it?????? If you don’t like it , don’t come to this site! No one makes you !!!!!! Such negativity!

  • Speed and selfless of drivers on 19 driving 75 or better

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 1:01 pm
    • I live in the Heather and I have never seen anyone driving over 65/70 on 19 in this zone. There has been a huge police presence here. What I have seen over and over again is people who think they are driving just fine while looking at their phones (No you are not driving fine). I have seen people who are crossing 19 to turn left (from east and west) that only look at the traffic of the lane they are crossing, not the people who are also coming into that crossway.

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 5:27 pm
    • If you notice. It’s people getting t-boned. The people on 19 have the right of way. If it’s not clear, don’t go. The people who live in the Heather do not pay attention to the traffic on 19 or they are too elderly and cannot gauge distance properly. I’ve seen many accidents minor and fatal because of the people coming from the Heather.

  • It’s called a traffic light!!! How many more need to be killed or badly hurt?

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 12:42 pm
  • Should just make it like they did at Fort Dade and Cortez. Right Turn Only !!

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:40 am
    • Absolutely… easy inexpensive fix. We aren’t going to be able to teach people how to enter this type of intersection to make a left turn.

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 5:19 pm
  • It’s not the intersection or the lack of lights, it’s the lack of knowledge of being behind the wheel. 99.99% of people here just don’t know the proper way to drive and are too selfish to yield to the right of way. Hell, I bet most drivers here don’t know what right of way means.

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:24 am
    • Your 100% right!

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 2:42 pm
    • Absolutely 110% Correct Sir!

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 5:27 pm
    • Max, if your married than you know what the right of way is.

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 7:08 pm
  • It isn’t the intersection, it’s the drivrs pulling out in front of oncoming traffic. That’ll get you killed anywhere.

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:23 am
  • People need to learn to drive better. There are lights everywhere and it probably will not help anyway since these people can’t drive right anyway. Put down the phone and pay attention to the road!

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:18 am
  • Its not the intersection, its the old people who are not paying attention, and should not be driving!!!!! Thats the problem!

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:05 am
    • sorry….i seen all ages coming out of the heather not stopping and flipping off the other driver at times…both us 19 and heather people at fault at different times…saw it also when i lived there….

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 3:54 pm
    • Some what true!

But also add in the 19yr olds to 40yr range that are driving with a phone glued to their nose, while driving up the guys but in front of them!!!!!!

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 5:30 pm
    • Ben…….please put a “number” to “old people”……I’ve never done a study of the ages of people who get involved in car accidents here in Hernando County, but, I do read all of the accident reports and it’s young and old alike. I am just curious at what age do you think “old people” should stop driving so there will be NO MORE ACCIDENTS! Thanks In Advance

  • You know I drove up 19 yesterday on the way to Homosassa and a silver car pulled out of the HEATHER without stopping just pulled right out of all the way into the northbound lane right in front of me doing doing about twenty mph, I put blinker on to go in right lane that car jump over in front of me. Had my grandson with me and he even stated that she was stupid and should take a driving test. Wondering out come if it was a semi. Hate to say seen cars just jump out in 19 without stopping to look. PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION PLEASE.

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 10:58 am
    • How about having the sheriff (deputy) sitting there writing citations and impoounding a few of these cars from people that don’t pay attention to the law ??????

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 12:31 pm
  • the “hellow” with “yellow” – put a real traffic light there. Another place that seriously needs a signal is on 50 where Aldis entrance/exit is for all those new eateries that went up there. Nightmare alley.

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 10:52 am
    • Thank FDOT And the County for not standing firm mandating “frontage roads” on SR50

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 5:50 pm
  • What in the world is up with that intersection?

    Sunday, 7 October 2018, 10:32 am
    • Maybe its not the intersection maybe its the cars going 90 on 19…agree with comment on 50 around new businesses,,, traffic turning is a problem..

      Sunday, 7 October 2018, 11:14 am
      • There not going 90….. Maybe 70, but not 90.
