Vigilant Neighbor Reports Fire – Saves Dog and Home
WEEKI WACHEE – A double-wide mobile home still stands and a dog is lucky to be alive, thanks to the watchful eyes of an alert neighbor who noticed smoke coming from the roof of the structure and called 911.
According to officials, firefighters responded to 9520 Gray Fox Drive around 4:00 PM this afternoon and discovered smoke coming from the back corner of the residence and a dog barking inside.
Fire Crews made entry through the front door, where they noticed the dog alert and unharmed in the front of the mobile home. The fire attack crew continued to a rear bedroom and quickly knocked down the room and content fire. This quick and aggressive fire attack isolated the damage to one bedroom and kept the mobile home from being rapidly consumed by the fire.
Shortly thereafter, the large dog was turned over to Hernando County Animal Services, after being removed from the home safely and uninjured.
Investigators determined that an electrical problem connected to a window air conditioning unit, contributed to the cause of the fire
Fire Officials say they would like to acknowledge the alert neighbor for quickly identifying the fire and calling 911, which most certainly contributed to the dog being rescued and less damage being caused to the mobile home.
