Vigilant Neighbor Reports Fire – Saves Dog and Home

WEEKI WACHEE – A double-wide mobile home still stands and a dog is lucky to be alive, thanks to the watchful eyes of an alert neighbor who noticed smoke coming from the roof of the structure and called 911.

According to officials, firefighters responded to 9520 Gray Fox Drive around 4:00 PM this afternoon and discovered smoke coming from the back corner of the residence and a dog barking inside.

Fire Crews made entry through the front door, where they noticed the dog alert and unharmed in the front of the mobile home.  The fire attack crew continued to a rear bedroom and quickly knocked down the room and content fire.  This quick and aggressive fire attack isolated the damage to one bedroom and kept the mobile home from being rapidly consumed by the fire.

Shortly thereafter, the large dog was turned over to Hernando County Animal Services, after being removed from the home safely and uninjured.

Investigators determined that an electrical problem connected to a window air conditioning unit, contributed to the cause of the fire

Fire Officials say they would like to acknowledge the alert neighbor for quickly identifying the fire and calling 911, which most certainly contributed to the dog being rescued and less damage being caused to the mobile home.

  • Great job neighbor! I too have stopped reading the comments. It seems like most of the time over half of the comments are so hateful. It feels like I’m back in middle School with the belittling. Remember when Tom’s mom was attacked by the dog trying to save her cat, how quick people were to point out what she done wrong and the name calling. Some of us grew up here and love it. I love what your doing Tom, I’m just avoiding the comments. Have a great day:)

  • Jim I’m with you, I don’t watch the news however I enjoy RNRF because it’s close to home, I have learned to quit reading the comments after the stories because most of the time the comments are as bad as the stories.
Thanks Tom for a Good Story with a Happy Ending. I pray the people living here are safe and have a place to stay and thank you to our concerned neighbor and as always our firefighters that risk their lives and not being paid enough to do so

    • YUP! Stick your head in the sand and pretended everything is hunky dory! Then vote for someone who promises Hope and Change then lies to ya about how great things are going!

      • Yeah, Sam, you’re funny. Like any “vote” will change the workings of those who choose the narcissistic profession of wanting power over peoples’ lives. Did you ever figure out the logic behind voting? It’s a tool (cough, scam) to keep the voting masses thinking that they’re in control.
