Walmart Shoplifter Captured After Brief Search – Long Criminal History

BROOKSVILLE – Around 3:00 pm this afternoon, loss prevention employees with the Walmart Supercenter on Cortez Blvd, observed a man stealing items from the automotive department.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released an official report, but our sources say the suspect fled the store in a white Hyundai and in an unknown direction.

Within minutes, deputies located the suspect vehicle behind Panera Bread in Coastal Landing and placed the driver into custody.

24-year-old Joshua Ian McWilliams was transported to the Hernando County Jail, where he will presumably face charges of Retail Theft.

A review of McWilliams’ criminal history, revealed numerous arrests; including Burglary in Oct of 2010, VOP in April of 2011, Burglary, Larceny, and Resisting Arrest in Jan of 2013, Fraud, Dealing in Stolen Property, Burglary, Larceny, and Resisting Arrest, also in Jan of 2013, Dealing in Stolen Property, Passing Forged Document, Larceny, Burglary, in May of 2013, Possession of Drugs and Paraphernalia, in Feb of 2014 and Possession of Drugs and Paraphernalia in August of 2014.

Despite dozens of criminal cases against McWilliams, RNRF could not locate information with the Florida Department of Corrections, regarding possible time spent in state custody.

  • Hawkeyes, retail theft IS a very Big Deal and costs every citizen a lot of money if you ever shop anywhere. Walmart, Target and every major retailer spends a lot of money on retail theft-slippage. Must be difficult for some citizens who play video games all day long to know right from wrong. Sad, very sad!

  • Retail theft is a big deal considering it drives up prices for the paying customer.

He most likely has an addiction of some sort considering all the theft cases. Too bad Florida does nothing for addicts when it comes to rehabilitation or identifying that cause of the addiction and trying to help him. 🙁
