Week 10 Predictions: District Titles on the Line and One Last Playoff Push
Week nine saw Nature Coast win the 5A-7 crown while Crystal River locked up the district’s second postseason berth. Week ten rolls around and brings us a matchup for a district title (Wiregrass vs Plant) as well as some action in 6A-6 that could force a three-way tiebreaker.
Joining me as always is Derek J. LaRiviere, and we will be breaking down the week ten slate, which will see one last fight for district supremacy.
Game of the Week: Hernando (3-4) at Nature Coast (8-0), 7:30 p.m.
Aiello Jr: Nature Coast, 49-7
LaRiviere: Nature Coast 35-0
Derek’s Breakdown: With two hurricanes running through Florida this football season, Nature Coast wraps up its schedule this week against Hernando and is attempting to finish 9-0 and run its regular season win streak to 22 games. All variables seem to favor the Sharks. A win would clinch the Hernando County title, and with the contest being at home, the crowd should be raucous. Expect big nights from T.J. Owens and Mike Weston the Nature Coast backfield, and we could possibly see the return to full action for QB Brian Haygood to tune up for the playoffs. It’s hard to imagine any way the Leopards would have the firepower on either side of the ball to compete for four quarters.
Danny’s Breakdown: Having wrapped up a district title, Nature Coast now turns to Hernando and the county title. Hernando might have a good defense, but they have seldom been tested by a high-powered offense like Nature Coast. De’Vonta Smith ran for over 350 yards and four touchdowns last week against the Leopards, and while the Sharks don’t have Smith, they do have T.J. Owens and Mike Weston, who will wear out the defense. The Leopards offense will find yards hard to come by against the Sharks, so expect Nature Coast to finish a perfect regular season.
Byes: Central (5-3)
OVERALL RECORDS (LAST WEEK) : Aiello Jr: 10-4 (76-28), LaRiviere 11-3 (80-24)
