Week 8 of the High School football season is upon us, and now it is time to start the home stretch. The pretenders have fallen from the pack, the top dogs have emerged, and in the middle are a bunch of teams jockeying for position. Welcome to Pigskin Prophets where Derek J. LaRiviere and myself break down all the high school football action for Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties. New this week, gone are the messy columns that you, the reader, didn’t like and replacing it is a table so you can easily follow who we selected! Be sure to follow the prophets on twitter, and take us on in the comments with your selections!

Game of the Week: Hernando (1-6) at Weeki Wachee (4-3) 7:30pm

Aiello Jr: Weeki Wachee, 28-7

LaRiviere: Weeki Wachee, 28-14

Derek’s Breakdown: In the short history of Weeki Wachee’s program, the Hornets have never defeated the storied Hernando program. That could change Fright night. The Leopards travel to the Hornet’s Nest midway through a tough campaign. One of the bright spots has been the senior combination of Christian Dowdell and Jacob Valentino in the backfield. However, Weeki Wachee’s passing attack, led by junior Alec Cromie, can be high-powered. Hernando is going to have a difficult time limiting the Hornets’ spread offense.

Danny’s Breakdown: Coming off a thumping at the hands of Nature Coast, Weeki Wachee has the perfect opportunity for a win this week. Hernando has had a rough go of things this season, and if Cromie and the Hornets can take down the Leopards, they will find themselves in control of their own destiny. A win here puts Weeki Wachee at 3-1 in the district, and by winning out, they can clinch a spot in the postseason.

Byes: None

OVERALL RECORDS (LAST WEEK): Aiello Jr: 60-33 (8-4), LaRiviere 68-25 (11-1)
