BROOKSVILLE – Earlier this afternoon, 911 dispatchers received several reports of reckless driver in the area of Cortez Blvd and Oregon Jay Road.
While en route to the scene, deputies received word that the suspect vehicle may have struck and damaged several fixed structures along Cortez Blvd. Deputies eventually caught up with the suspect at the intersection of Oregon Jay Road and Yale Ave, where he was taken into custody.
There are unconfirmed reports that the driver suffered a diabetic episode, but when Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, the driver refused treatment.
About 20 minutes later, while sitting in the back of a patrol car, the driver requested that Fire Rescue respond again, and this time he was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Damage to a traffic signal control box at the intersection of Nightwalker Road and Cortez Blvd caused the light to convert to flash mode. The driver also destroyed a crosswalk pole at the same intersection.
