Woman Captures Reckless Driver on Video, Nearly Crashes into McDonald’s Restaurant

SPRING HILL – It’s that time of the year again.

Around this time every year, visitors from the north flock to various locations around Florida to escape the ice, snow, and frigid temperatures. These part-time residents are commonly referred to as “Snowbirds” to most Floridians, and Hernando County seems to be a “hot spot” for these cold weather refugees. But it’s not just the dual-state dwellers who fill the roadways with unfamiliar faces, many of them are local residents who just have a hard time following the rules of the road.

Chassisity Miller captured video of one wayward driver last night, after she says an elderly woman nearly ran another motorist off the road, before pulling into a McDonald’s Restaurant on Mariner Blvd.

Miller says she followed the reckless driver from Lamson Ave, eastbound on Northcliffe Blvd, where she then proceeded to turn north on Mariner Blvd. Miller’s video shows the driver cross the dividing line between the outside and inside lanes and then pull into the McDonald’s. That’s when the driver drove straight over a concrete curb before pulling into the drive-through.

After the driver left McDonald’s, Miller followed her back to a residence on Cranston Street, where Miller met with Sheriff’s Deputies. After viewing Miller’s video, they made contact with the driver.

Miller says the woman appeared to be in her seventies and stumbled as he exited the vehicle. “They were talking to her in the garage for a little bit and looking at the vehicle… She was still home we walked by and heard yelling coming from inside,” says Miller.

Law Enforcement Officers are unable to make an arrest or ticket reckless drivers unless they observe the incident themselves, according to Deputies we spoke to.

It is not known at this time if the woman was cited for the incident.

Millers says, “I am just thankful no one got hurt…..this time at least.”

  • After 65 you should have to take a driving test, with vision and hearing regularly, and Dr’s should ask if people still drive and be able to report someone who he believes is a hazard on the road! A responsible person should surrender their liscence when it’s time! Stay safe, call a cab

    • Why 65? I think it should start at 45 and every 5 yrs. thereafter due to the fact that attitude and vision have a great affect on driving. AND, most of the young residents don’t EVER use a turn signal and have no idea what the laws are.

  • How many bank robberies hAve been personally witnessed by an officer, yet there is no problem using video surveillance in those cases. At least this video should have been the basis for a written warning.

  • Tom…’Nobody’ made a good point on here. Why are they allowed to ticket violaters of a red light camera offense, but not ticket with evidence of a personal camera? Here’so another good one to pitch to the Sheriff. Go for it!
The necessary proof is THERE. All the info they needed was provided, and they made contact with the lady. They have no other valid excuse NOT to charge the lady. If you can be ticketed due to a red light camera evidence, then the same should apply to a citizen’s personal camera evidence that is turned over immediately to law enforcement. Then there is no way it gets altered.

    • Great point!! This should be brought up to the sheriff. If they can can ticket according to red light camera’s, then WHY can’t they ticket with a personal camera. The end result is the same. In the short time it took to record this old lady, and follow her home to get her tag and call 9.1.1…there was no way it could have been altered to show anything different. A video is rock solid proof that it happened. It is what it is…
