SPRING HILL – Around 10:00 p.m. Monday evening, Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire Rescue responded to 6251 Skyline Court, after reports that a vehicle had struck the residence.

Prior to their arrival, witnesses say the female driver left the scene of the accident on foot. Within minutes, deputies were able to locate the driver a short distance away and bring her back to the scene of the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene and began their investigation into the accident.

An official report has not been released at this time, but according to our sources, 33-year-old Tomasa Renee Zavala of Hudson lost control of her Dodge Charger, while driving southbound on Treehaven Drive. As she approached the curve at Tipton Lane, she struck a utility pole, plowed through a picket fence, and then finally came to rest against the residence on Skyline Court.

During the investigation, Zavala refused to answer questions and was overheard saying “I was not driving!” and “I want my lawyer!”

Zavala was transported to the Hernando County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence. It is unknown if additional charges are Pending.

The home was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

UPDATE: 5/26/2015, 10:34 A.M. – According to Jail records, in addition to her original DUI charge, Zavala is now charged with 5 counts of DUI with Property Damage, Hit and Run, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License. She remains behind bars, held on a $1,500 bond.

  • ya she’ll be out n on the streets driving again. and no new cars don’t need to come with breathalyzers! im not an alcoholic and if you need to worry about getting behind the wheel drunk you should equip your car with that item, however dui is also driving while high on pot or on drugs which many do so a breathalyzer would be useless…texting while driving causes accidents too i look over n see people texting while they’re driving and they are swerving like a drunk. all it takes is seconds people get off the phone, drive sober and alert!

  • I’m curious to why she has such a low bond? Maybe, if the bond was higher for these DUI’s and hit and run’s we’d have a little better chance of keeping them off the roads.

    Tuesday, 26 May 2015, 3:23 pm

  • Alcohol is Big Business, you can’t drive down the road without seeing a Bar or Liquor store? Open on Sundays to boot. Yet, you have to blame the individual. People need to take responsibility. I’m a struggling Alcoholic, tried to stop numerous times. It’s not easy, but like cigarette smoking Someone Will Quit WHEN they are ready to quit. I do not drive under the influence and in no way support it. I believe every new car should be equipped with a breathalyzer in order to start the vehicle. Insurance companies should offer large incentives/ bonuses for the safer operators. But good luck with that. That only happens after Multiple DUI’s. oh without any rewards.

    • Oh you’re absolutely right the bottle forced it’s way into her mouth just like a cigarette walked to other hands. No one makes someone drink, smoke or do drugs and if they do then you need to get out of that situation or just say no! So get a reality check Alex F.
