Woman Says “I wasn’t Driving” After Car Collides with House – Charged with DUI
SPRING HILL – Around 10:00 p.m. Monday evening, Sheriff’s Deputies and Fire Rescue responded to 6251 Skyline Court, after reports that a vehicle had struck the residence.
Prior to their arrival, witnesses say the female driver left the scene of the accident on foot. Within minutes, deputies were able to locate the driver a short distance away and bring her back to the scene of the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol arrived on the scene and began their investigation into the accident.
An official report has not been released at this time, but according to our sources, 33-year-old Tomasa Renee Zavala of Hudson lost control of her Dodge Charger, while driving southbound on Treehaven Drive. As she approached the curve at Tipton Lane, she struck a utility pole, plowed through a picket fence, and then finally came to rest against the residence on Skyline Court.
During the investigation, Zavala refused to answer questions and was overheard saying “I was not driving!” and “I want my lawyer!”
Zavala was transported to the Hernando County Jail and charged with Driving Under the Influence. It is unknown if additional charges are Pending.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
UPDATE: 5/26/2015, 10:34 A.M. – According to Jail records, in addition to her original DUI charge, Zavala is now charged with 5 counts of DUI with Property Damage, Hit and Run, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License. She remains behind bars, held on a $1,500 bond.
