Woman Strikes Deputy in Groin During Domestic Dispute, Temporarily Unable to Breathe
BROOKSVILLE – A violent domestic dispute between quarreling sisters led to a “bad day” for one Sheriff’s Deputy who tired to intervene. That’s what officials say happened on Wednesday, when Deputy Eric Burburan responded to 20128 Oakdale Ave in referernce to an unrelated domestic battery case.
Accoridng to reports, Dep. Burburan tried to separate the suspect, 19-year-old Shayla Mercado from screaming in the face of her sister, Cheyenne Mercado. When Shayla ignored Dep. Burburan’s commands, he grabbed her by the arm in an attempt to detain her. When he tried to place handcuffs on Shayla, she resisted and used her right arm to strike Dep. Burburan in the groin. Dep. Burburan says he temporarly lost the ability to breathe from the attack, but after catching his breath, he “escorted” Shayla to the ground and placed Shayla in handcuffs.
Shayla Mercado was transported to the Hernando County Jail, where she is charged with two-counts of Battery and Ressisting Arrest with Violence. Mercado remains behind bars on a $15,000 bond.
