Woman’s Brutal Beating Witnessed by 10-Year-Old Son, Suspect Held Without Bond
DUNNELLON – A 30-year-old Dunnellon man is behind bars today, after he attacked his girlfriend and 10-year-old stepson during a domestic dispute on Wednesday.
According Officials, on November 30th Deputy Robert Ferguson responded to a domestic battery call in the area of Nugget Pass Place and East Scott Lane.
Ferguson made contact with the victim who claimed her boyfriend, Steven Shinkle, became enraged after she told him he was worthless and lazy, after he woke up late for work. The victim says that’s when Shinkle pinned her to the bed, struck her multiple times in the face, strangled her, and threatened to kill her. When Shinkle noticed the victim’s 10-year-old son standing nearby, he attempted to run after him but the victim held Shinkle back long enough for her son to get out of Shinkle’s way. After being punched in the face again, the victim broke free from Shinkle, grabbed her son, and ran out of the residence.
During an interview, Dep. Ferguson observed several injuries to the victim’s face and neck, which were consistent with her statement.
Shinkle was then placed under arrest for Domestic Battery with Strangulation and held without bond due to the nature of the crime.
Shinkle has previous arrests for Battery of a Pregnant Victim, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Distribution of a Controlled Substance, and Drug paraphernalia.
