Young Children Subjected to Phallic Graffiti on School Sidewalk, District Still Deciding What To Do
WARNING: CONTAINS GRAPHIC IMAGE
UPDATE: 12:05 P.M. – School District Spokesperson Karen Jordan just advised that the image has been completely removed.
SPRING HILL – It’s no secret that children are subjected a barrage of sexual innuendo, vulgar language, and behavior that just 20 years ago would have resulted in harsh discipline if not expulsion from most schools. What children see and hear in schools today would shock most parents, especially those who are active in practicing their particular religion.
Last week, concerned parents whose children attend Explorer K-8, sent photos of a vulgar image painted on a sidewalk that leads to the school. The phallic image was outlined in black spray paint and covered a large section of sidewalk.
Parents say they complained to the school but that nothing was done to remedy the problem, so RNRF contacted the school District on Tuesday and asked what would be done to correct the issue. We did not receive a reply from School District Spokesperson Karen Jordan until late Wednesday – who said “Thank you for the information. I have contacted our Facilities Dept. to determine what steps may be taken.”
Yesterday, approximately five days after the first complaint, RNRF inspected the image and found that it had not been removed; instead, someone had filled it in with a light-colored spray paint.
Today, RNRF contacted Jordan again and she responded, “I have confirmed with our Facilities Dept. that they are determining options to remedy the situation.” Meanwhile, students who average in ages between 5 and 14 continue walking over a giant phallic image, forcing parents to explain what it represents.
Parents we spoke to say something needs to be done immediately to remove the image from children’s view. Elizabeth Phillips says, “I’d be pretty upset if kids had to walk over that… seems a pressure washer and some acid would have cleaned it faster and easier than painting over it!!!”
Merry-lyn Orlando says, “Vulgarity has no place at any school.
We will update this story once the image has been removed.
