Deputies Surround Home after Hearing Scream and Possible Gunshot - Man Charged
SPRING HILL – Authorities have not released an official report at this time but according to our sources, around 1:00 p.m. deputies responded to 2165 Canfield Drive, after reports of a disturbance at that location.
Upon arrival, a deputy reported hearing a woman scream, followed by what he thought was a gunshot that rang out from inside the residence. Numerous deputies surrounded the home and with the use of a loud speaker, they began attempts to make contact with the occupants.
Within minutes, a woman stepped outside with her hands raised and was placed in the back of a patrol car. The unidentified woman kept screaming that her two children were still inside, so deputies continued their efforts to coax a male suspect out of the house. Eventually, the male suspect identified as 25-year-old Sheldon Mark Long stepped outside and was quickly arrested.
Sheldon’s exact charges are unknown at this time, but officials did confirm warrants out of North Carolina.
There are no reports of injury at this time.
UPDATE: 5/26/2015, 3:18 P.M. According to a Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, it was determined that no crime was committed. Long’s only charges are cash purge, failure to appear warrants out of North Carolina.

SLANDEROUS! This site is redic! This man is a victim of a hit & run associated with this address which is how the police even knew to look for him there. The yelling from the house occured after the police arrived to make an arrest for Mr Long for outstanding charges. Apparently when Mr. Long chose not to press charges against the man who hit him the authoroties became suspicious and ran his background. His offenses are traffic & back child support related. Not saying he doesn’t need to address his charges but scarey how anyone can be a victim of bad media resulting in depriervation of character.
So no crime committed..yet mommy got hand cuffed…why did hcso go there? Was it to collect him for the out of state warrents? If so did they contact that state and ask if they wanted to extradite him? Does the hcso normally go thru and check people for out of state warrants when involved in an accident?
Seems they should get some fees from the other state for locating their fugitive. When we can’t locate our own. If it were a traffic stop and those warrants showed up… the officer would find out right there in the cruiser if Carolina wanted to extradited and he has to hold him. If it’s true… to look into his name because he wouldn’t press charges and they thought it was suspicious smells…seems a little nasty. I would think they would have seen warrants at the hit and run accident??? Was nothing said because he was needed ? When he didn’t press charges they figured well now he can go. Either way I certainly wouldn’t expect to be handcuffed before they decide a crime was committed. Tell your friend to be very careful…If prisoner transportation services of america is coming for him to transport..its very rough…to say the least.
Aaah..Spring Hill…New Port Richey north…
Daniel d: Sheldon left before the police arrived when the car hit him most likely due to the outatanding warrents. He was on foot & the person ran into him with his car . It was one of the girls ex’s that came up to the house from Clearwater.
To Daniel D: Do you not read, HCSO went there because of a disturbance. Once there they heard screams and what sounded like a gun shot. While removing people from house YES you handcuff until everything is sorted out
People are run through state and national data base to check for warrants, once a hit is confirmed they go to jail!!
It says according to OUR sources (RNRF) who is the source ? Does the police statement say that? If you are pulled over or interact with police and warrants are found especially for traffic and child support..non violent..a call is made to that state to see if the will extradite. If so they will hold you for that state. If that don’t want you ….you walk. Fact
In this case, “our sources” refers to radio traffic intercepted between Sheriff’s Deputies and Dispatchers.
You are correct regarding the warrants. The agency holding the warrants for Long did confirm and request a hold for extradition.
The massive response was not related to the warrants; rather, the belief that a shot was fired.
Bottom line! Don’t leave any County or State with warrants. This could’ve been avoided had he went! I’m so sick of people blaming the media, courts, Sheriff Depts and anything else they can think of. Geeze!! Blame yourselves!! Stop making excuses and deal with your actions!
Tracy geeze they should lock you up for being an idiot. Have a great day bleased.
Whose the idiot? My name is right in front of your eyeballs and yet you spelled it wrong. Your comment is ridiculous and doesn’t even make a bit if sense.
Correction…bit of sense.
If I am not mistaken, Florida does not extradite for petty crimes only if you are a felon. His crime is not considered a felon however Tracie is correct. Also if he had taken care of his affairs this would not have taken place. Where did this so called hit and run fit in? It is amazing how everyone judges without knowing the whole story. You are all making your own interpretations on every article placed by RNRF. Yes we a high crime situation here but the HCSO can only do so much. They are not baby sitters and we are all adults. Some of these adults just think they are above the law and are infallible. The Sheriffs have a protocol they must follow with every incident call and that is to protect themselves first upon arrival until they are clear as to whom they are dealing with.
As far as Tom Lemons’s articles, his is the most accurate you will get. He never inserts any articles that are false or probabilities. He reports only what is accurate. Then he inserts the articles and then everyone has a field day ripping it apart with their own thoughts and theories. Read the articles and think before you judge because one day it might be you on RNRF trying to defend yourself. There a lot of people here who believe in HCSO. We may not all agree on our judicial system but we must only hope that it will work for the majority.
Tracie
Bottom line!! You should not judge a person for any reason. Mr long is in town for a funeral and celebration of life for his grandfather. He made the choice to see his grandfather for a final time before he passed after a long battle with cancer. He chose to make his grandfather his priority and to deal with his warrents when he returns home.
Let this be a life lesson. The family of Mr Long forgives you for your ignorance.
Concerned Citizen,
Its called take care of your business or don’t let it happen to begin with. Its that simple. Now look at the boat he is in! I am definitely not ignorant.
