High Speed Chase Leads to State Corrections Officer’s Arrest - Domestic Related
SPRING HILL – Accusations of domestic abuse, child endangerment, and drug abuse, led to a high speed chase, child removal, and the arrest of a State Corrections Officer, tonight on Spring Hill Drive.
Around 3:00 p.m. today, 911 operators received reports of a possible weapons disturbance in the area of Kass Circle. While en route to the scene, deputies received information that three vehicles had left the area and were traveling eastbound on Spring Hill Drive at a high rate of speed. Witnesses say the vehicles were traveling in excess of 80 to 100 mph, by the time they reached the intersection to Spring Hill Drive and Mariner Blvd. The chase finally came to an end, when all the vehicles pulled into the parking lot of the Metro PCS Store, next to the McDonald’s Restaurant. Numerous Deputies converged on the scene and separated all parties involved.
While deputies attempted to sort out exactly what happened, we spoke to a woman who claimed to be a passenger and wife to one of the drivers in the chase. According to “Litey,” her daughter, Alicia Courtney, is living with convicted felon and alleged domestic abuser, Brent Courtney. Litey says that on Thursday, they visited Alicia at her home on Waycross Drive, where she was threatened with a steel pipe. She also says her younger daughter was attacked and sustained a bruise to the face, during the same altercation. Litey claims they are trying to get their granddaughter away from Alicia, until she leaves her husband. “Litey” says, Brent made statements like “I’m going to kill that scumbag little baby and leave town with Alicia.”
Today’s incident began when “Litey” and husband, Arnold Franco, who happens to be a State Corrections Officer at the Women’s Prison on Spring Hill Drive, chased Alicia from her home to the Sheriff’s Office Sub-station on Kass Circle. When Alicia realized there were no deputies manning the station, she attempted to flee the area again. Alicia tells RNRF that her father blocked her car in and then approached her vehicle - armed with a handgun. That’s when Alicia says Franco tried smashing the rear side-window with the butt of his gun. In fear for her life and that of her child, Alicia rammed the front of Franco’s car and drove eastbound on Spring Hill Drive. Alicia says she stopped at one point in the median, where Franco once again attempted to smash in her window with the gun.
During the investigation, a DCF agent arrived on the scene and removed Alicia’s daughter from her care. The child was immediately placed into the custody of her grandfather, Dade City Police Officer, Sgt. William Rowe. Rowe’s son Brian, who is the child’s father, is currently behind bars on unrelated charges from 2015.
Alicia says, the allegations of abuse by Brent Courtney are not true, despite the obvious black eye shown in the picture below. Alicia claims that she sustained the black eye during a recent bar fight.
Brent Courtney is currently on House Arrest, after a 2015 conviction for Grand Theft and Intimidating a witness. It is believed that Courtney is now on the run and hiding from law enforcement, due to the abuse allegations.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Sgt. Arnold Franco was taken into custody and booked into the Hernando County Jail – however his exact charges have not been released.

They had just pulled out onto Spring Hill Dr. when all 3 of these maniacs came flying down S.H. drive IN THE CENTER turn lane weaving in / out of traffic. My husband was going west. Reckless endangerment of the public should be a charge against ea. driver. It is getting very scary here.
Sounds like the father was trying to deter a situation with his daughter, who by the way looks like a crack addict. It seems to me she should have been taken away in handcuffs, not the father.

The smartest thing we could have done was drive away from the situation. Her father and sister chased us down and hit our car more then once with their vehicle. A gun was involved we were trying to get Alicia’s daughter safe. We called the police twice and it took them long enough to help.
All the drivers should have been taken away in handcuffs! Who with a brain beats on anything with a gun.? What if it had gone off and killed someone perhaps even the child? Save us ALL from these crazy people.

My daughter Alicia is in a very abusive marriage with a man who threatened to kill my grand daughter right after he tried to kill me Alicia’s mother with a steel pipe. Jodi Smiles, I don’t even know what to say to you. Her father was attempting to shatter her window with probably a load handgun. He sounds just as much a danger to the child as the bf. The mother may not be making good choices, but her looks don’t make it so that you can judge how she should or shouldn’t be treated. Even if she is “nothing but trouble”. If anyone on here knew any of the story you would eat your own words. Alicia “the victim” was on the run from DCF since early this morning trying to get brent so they could flee the state with my niece. My niece and myself got a knife put to us because brent told his friend to do so. My father and my sister had already called the police when they saw alicias car, and in attempt to not lose them they all sped to keep up with her. I would like to ask what any of you would do if it was your own grandchild? I sure as heck know I’d go to battle with satan himself to know she was alright. My sister needs help, but only jesus can save her from the damage she has caused herself and our entire family. My dad doesn’t deserve to be where he’s at. If my sister had any love at all for her daughters, this entire situation would be different. If she had any love for anyone aside from herself, my dad would be home tonight playing poker with his children sitting around the table and all the grandbabies laughing and playing. Yes my daughter Alicia is a victim in an abusive relationship, but she is choosing to be. Our grand daughter didn’t have a choice. DCF has been to their house many times, and even after seeing my daughter with black eyes, and bruises all over her body they still chose to let the kids stay there. My husband was trying to save our grand child, if he didn’t get to them this would have been a completely different news story.

I know the Corrections Officer (Grandfather) very well. He is a hard working, honest, honorable man. I also know the wife (Grandmother) very well. They raised their children as well as any of us can. We can not control what our adult children do once they leave the nest. But if any of our children came home and asked for help and was bruised and beaten we would help. When you are in a abusive relationship for an extended amount of time you can not think straight. You are no longer able to make rational choices until you choose to leave the situation. Fear, confusion and a distortion of what love is takes over. She went to her family for help. They opened the doors. Instead of her staying there where it was safe. She put her mother, sister, daughter in danger by allowing them to be threatened and physically abuse by this monster. She left in secret with the baby. And one with a real heart would have done the same thing. If some one took my baby/granddaughter I would have done the same thing. Driving at high speed was not the best choice. But it may have been the only choice they had. Yes accidents could have happened but they did not. Thank God!!! This was not a drug deal gone bad. This was a rescue mission. How else are they supposed to drive? They rescued the baby. The Grandfather never broke the glass with the butt of gun. So what does that tell you?? He did hit it but he did not put complete force in fear of hurting the baby. I rather have a baby alive with a few cuts than a dead baby. It is not the first time the mother’s bf abused the baby so no one was taking his threat lightly. Police have been involved several times. The grandparents have tried to help their daughter but their biggest concern was the baby in the past and now. This is years of this abuse going on. Years of parents trying to work with their child. They did give up on the daughter til she asked for help on her own. To turn on the only people who have ever been there for her. I am praying for all of them. Especially for the Officer and wife. When it comes to our children we move heaven and earth to what ever it takes to protect them. So instead of calling them junkies which they are not. Or the defaming the entire family lets just call it like it is. Two parents giving up on their daughter and doing what ever it takes to save their granddaughter. Franco I support you. I will be their for you guys. I have been there in other situations and watch the torment this unhealthy relationship has brought to your family. Unless people know the whole story and have witnessed any of it in the past they do not know they type of monster they were dealing with. As well as the amount of danger the baby was in. We should all pray for them and our county.

Sue, being the mother of a son whom has gotten himself into a heap of trouble due to drugs I sympathize with your situation. I know Brent Courtney as my son had some run ins with him and believe I have met your daughter and I know It is a difficult thing when your child becomes involved with drugs. I would not want my daughter with Brent either. I wouldn’t want my daughter with my own son while he was on his drug rampage. None of them where allowed back in my home including my own son. People automatically assume that they come from bad families. Drugs are not bias to race, sex, creed or financial status. My son comes from a good home with parents who loved and nurtured him. He chose the wrong path and is now paying for his mistakes. We as the parents are automatically labeled as white trash when our children go down the wrong road. Not so. It is the stigma you get. I myself know the desperation that over takes you when faced with trying to save your son/daughter. It is a battle you fight for your child. Fortunately, I do not have a grandchild that was involved. People who were lucky enough to escape the wrath of a Drugs have no idea what they are talking About. Unless it has happened to you I say shut your mouth. I don’t know the whole story here just as most of those commenting do not. Desperate measures sometimes cause desperate actions. I know I would go to the ends of the earth to protect my grandchild. I have other kids who all turned out to be great kids. I have a daughter with a 4.25 GPA and has never caused my husband and I an ounce of trouble. I just have that one kid who can’t get it right. In response to me denying my daughters are with drug dealers, I will not sink to a level where it becomes accusational with no warrant. I do have a daughter who is in a bad situation. Help has been offered on a steady basis. I wasn’t in the cars that chased Alicia. I was searching in other areas. The truth will come out in this whole situation, and the baby is safe. I love how people act like they know my family, when I know none of you. I most certainly was not creeping around any house, nor did I just go in anyone’s house. Everyone has a right to believe as they wish, so believe as you will. I have never been to that home before yesterday morning without being asked too. Yesterday was different because DCF was involved, and my grand child’s life was in jeopardy.

He has cornerd my daughter several times in several places him and 5 other guys thretend to beat her up and would not let her leave. And as for alica she is nothing but white trash in my book she cornerd my daughter as well thretening to kill her and god knows what else… she never has her kid and sells drugs for living. So the grandpa who got arrested is/was a correctional officer??? wow, you would think he would’ve used better judgement in handling this situation. So he can handle all the problems that prisoners cause cool and calmly, but he cant take that experience from his job and incorporate it into his personal life. That is crazy. I understand he was trying to save his granddaughter but he went about it in the wrong way completely. Not only did he endanger his self/granddaughter, he endangered everyone on spring hill drive/mariner, i know at 3pm there is a ton of people in that area, and he has his gun out, very reckless, what happens if the gun went off and hit someone while he was bashing it on the window?. 80mph high speed pursuit? he is not a police officer and is not above the law.
Thin blue line at it’s finest…DOC guard who thinks it’s ok to pull his gun and try to smash a Window…then tries to block her in…continues driving at a high rate of speed endangering the public with his antics…jerk…probably pulled his badge out to hcso…then they walk him uncuffed to the country club….he should be fired….and the keystone kops should be reprimanded for not cuffing the lawbreaker…smh…
corrections officers are civilians, not police/law enforcement … They are nothing more than guards.
Witness to crazy town: Sorry to inform you differently but Florida State Corrections Officers ARE classified as Law Enforcement. I know this because myself and my Wife are both retired Florida State Corrections Officers, both of us retired after 25 years with the DOC. We are both classified as Retired Law Enforcement. That said, this moron doesn’t deserve to keep that title, especially after endangering everyone around him. I see that he holds a Sergeant’s rank, which goes to show that some people are promoted WAY BEYOND their intelligence level. Believe me, there are idiots in every profession, sometimes they manage to slip through the cracks, sometimes they don’t. Tom hopefully we can get up-dates as this plays out, the way the DOC has been tightening up under it’s new Leadership, he will most likely be terminated from his job at the very least. As far as the criminal charges go, it IS Hernando County!

Corrections officer should know better. It makes me sick to see the grandmother saying he was trying to save our grand daughters life. Lady, he could have taken MY grandkids out by the way he acted. I hope they make an example of him, and charge him to the fullest. And maybe drug test that reckless jerk.

@Brittany, racing down the road 80 to 100 p hr, Hummm if he had injured or killed innocent people, also banging gun on car window, you say he was doing what he had to do!!! This my dear is insane and anyone else that did this would have been handled in a very differnt way. No excuses for his actions, I don’t care what u say this was a very dangerous situation and he caused it. Glad no one was injured and praying for that poor child. Btw, his skeletons are Out of his closet!! Enough said.
Uncle Butch should have known better and called the law to get the kid. DCF would have been right there and maybe grandma and grandpa could have helped the other grandparents raise these girls. There is no excuse for any law enforcement officer to violate laws and it’s even worse for his biased wife to come here defending him.
Aunt Sue might be a nice woman but that does not excuse her assisting in ripping this family apart. If she knew where this little girl was, why did she not take DCF with her, to make sure the kids were safe?
As for the other girls. I don’t believe what is being said about them to be true either. I have a hard time with young girls acting like hoochie momma’s and their own mother commenting about how beautiful the pictures are. I also have a problem with momma telling one to call her and her boyfriend Bonnie and Clyde instead of Romeo and Juliet. I also have a problem with a young girl flashing money, as drug dealers do. That would be those girls you speak of.
Enough is enough. He’s in jail under a large bond where he deserves to be. He could have and luckily didn’t kill someone else’s mother, grandmother, grandkids or anyone else with his selfish, criminal actions.

I think the child would be better off with a foster family than with the father of a felon. If either the parents or the grandfather were capable of instilling morals and virtues in their children this would’ve never happened.
I guess they tried to teach by example and look what that got them.
Farfaraway, I personally don’t care what you think, the child is with her grandpa,Dade city police officer who drove all that way to get that poor child .and save her from maniacs. So shut the hell up and let them get on with their lives. I am sure the grandpa that came and got her hadPULL and perhaps could have had his sons arrest fixed, that happens. Arnold Franco is charged with 3 counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond was reduced to $2000.00 per count, I believe he’s out of jail on bond. His next scheduled court appearance is 2/23/16 in Judge Merritt’s courtroom. Be on the look-out if you’re driving on Spring Hill Drive!!
