Student’s Dream of Dead Classmates Leads to HCSO Investigation

SPRING HILL – After students were released from Explorer K-8 yesterday, families began receiving robocalls from School Officials, alerting them of an earlier school threat that had since been resolved. As a result of the automated calls, RNRF began receiving dozens of requests for information on the incident from concerned parents. Because office hours had closed at the School District and the Sheriff’s Office, parents were forced to wait until today to find out what led to the automated calls.

We contacted officials this morning and we received the following response from Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Denise Moloney, “There is NO threat. A young student passed on info about a dream he had to other students, upsetting those students. The incident was investigated thoroughly yesterday. No threat at all, no need for alarm.”

That answer seems to coincide with parents who were privy to what occurred, but for some parents, the frightening notice and timing of the automated call was not handled appropriately by officials – especially since there was an actual HCSO investigation. Susan Mirabal says “The call went home to parents this evening it was very vague ! I think our administration handled this extremely poor as we as parents don’t know from the call if our children were in danger at some point and not informed or from what I read now in above comments if there is a threat of danger. Very scary very sad! Shame on our administrators for this!” A student told her mother “A kid in my class was explaining his dreams recently and all it came true. He said that on Thursday, all 5th graders beside him were going to die at school, according to his dream. His whole lunch table was freaked out, one kid actually threw up.”

There are unconfirmed reports that the student has been removed from the school as a precaution.

CORRECTION: 2/23/2016 3:49 P.M. – In our original report, we stated that the automated calls were received from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. That was in error. The calls originated from the Hernando County School Board.

  • Thank you RNRF for keeping up to date on this story ! As I stated yesterday it’s just a shame that the administration in our school handled this in such a poor manor. These are our children and to create worry or even panic at 6 pm at night hours after the school is closed and our children are home is horrible. Indeed officials need time to do their job and investigations and there is no disputing that but I think our schools administration should be better trained on how to handle informing parents incase there truely was a emergency to occur.

  • Really? A dream prompted such a response and upset kids? Come on people, this entitled and coddling generation is getting ridiculous.

  • Well , considering the society that we live in , yea I woukd say these kids have every right to be uoset at a student telling them he’s been having dreams that come true and now his dream says they will all die! These are 5th grade students , 11 maybe 12 year olds , I don’t think it’s coddling , It’s Genuine paranoia coming from children who see a new shooting and killings every week…..gezzzz

  • To put out a robo call such as this, then, go home and not field the phones from worried parents is inexcusable!

  • That ‘dream’ could have been that boys immature way of making a threat without actually saying it directly, who knows. It is upsetting to anyone, especially parents. There are far too many lunatics shooting up schools and malls for something like this to be taken lightly. If you disagree, then you must not be a parent.. Or you’re living in a fantasy world.

  • things get out of hand dont blame the administration, its just a kid trying to live in a reality world ,stop letting them play on the computers and watching all the garbage on tv.everyone not a star. and if the parents had jobs they wouldn’t have all this time on there hands to do nothing but complain.grow up people.

  • maybe the kid threw up because he had a lousy lunch.

  • We NEED to be aware of everything that involves ANY threat to our children BEFORE hand so WE can decide IF we feel it’s safe for our kids to go to school the next day. Getting an automated call that time of day isn’t what we expect. Dreams are often reality to children, especially when they see schools being invaded by students shooting students on TV. It’s not far from REALITY!!!!

  • Thank you! I already received another call this evening. Very, very vague and disappointing.

  • I know the family of the boy. He is a good boy with a vivid imagination. He comes from a Christian home where there is a lot of discipline and love. Unfortunately he also likes to be the center of attention at times to try and fit in at school. He doesn’t play video games at all and any tv that is watched is wholesome family tv. His parents, the school and the Sheriffs dept. have spoken to the child and advised him of the severity of his story and this is not a game or a matter to be taken lightly. He is extremely remorseful and upset that he caused so much trouble. He has been suspended from school for a week and is being dealt with and disciplined at home.

  • This is comical…all you parents squealing are comical. You’re actually upset about a call sent out AFTER your kids were already home and NOTHING actually happened… I have four kids of my own and I watch the way some of you parents act. Your children are not all little stars who need secret service protection. Shut up….sit down….get a grip

  • Damn, coming from a big city school, This would of been a total non issue. If some one vomited over a bad dream some one else had Id seriously have that kid talk to someone for professional help. Thats not normal. I thought the school lunches quality have gotten better of time. Maybe not..

  • What wait, huh, some kid had a dream and the teachers had that infomation that it was a dream and still involved the police, the police then interveined knowing it was a dream, called parents to tell them about a kids dream.more tax dollars well spent.
Let me guess they took out the chopper to fly over the school and catch any rouge dreams that may of escaped this child.
I personaly think d.c.f should be called as these teachers seem incapable of being responsible for all these children

  • They should kick him out of school for the rest of the year that will learn him and maybe he will never use his imagination ever again

  • Concerned parent of a Explorer Stundent

let me tell you something. The school always contacts parents after 5 pm what a joke yes. But would a panic result if you were contacted at lunch time when it happened. Think about what you are saying for a moment. Panic or tell them after. and again the next day explain the reason. I do thank you Tom your reporting is what Spring Hill needs..

  • The school handled this horribly what if there was a real threat would they handle this the same way. Bs

  • The parents are upset because they should of been informed by school why there werw police there instead of having to wait for this report to come out.

  • This is ridiculous. In several ways.

  • The thing is that they were very vague, and first said there was no threat, then the next day said they searched the building. And they didn’t tell us that the kids were sitting outside for almost an hour for a “fire drill.” If some kids dream really wasn’t a threat, then why did they treat it as one and search the building for an hour?
