Women Expected to Recover After Vicious Hammer Attack - New Details
SPRING HILL – Residents inside the Silverthorn Country Club are still in shock after two women were bludgeoned with a hammer during last night’s home invasion on Middle Fairway Drive.
ORIGINAL REPORT: BREAKING: TWO WOMEN SEVERELY BEATEN WITH HAMMER – SUSPECT IN CUSTODY
The Sheriff’s Office has now released the identity of the man they say committed the heinous act.
According to officials, at 4:33 p.m., 911 operators received reports that two women were injured inside the gated community. Rescue Officials and Numerous Deputies responded to 14443 Middle Fairway Drive, where they located 55-year-old Kathleen Perkins, who had sustained traumatic injuries. At the same time, deputies received information that the second victim, 27-year-old Samantha Perkins was chasing the suspect on foot, not far from the residence. Deputies soon caught up with Samantha, where she provided a description of the suspect and the direction he had traveled. Samantha also explained that Panarese was her ex-boyfriend.
After a short foot chase, deputies located the suspect, 51-year-old Joseph Panarese attempting to flee across the Suncoast Parkway. Deputies managed to catch up with Panarese in the median and take him into custody without further incident.
Panarese was transported to Bayfront Health Brooksville for treatment of injuries sustained during the chase. He was later booked into the Hernando County jail on charges of Home Invasion with a Weapon and 2-counts of Aggravated Battery with a Weapon. Panarese remains behind bars – held on a $150,000 bond.
Both victims are expected to make a full recovery, according to officials.
An anonymous source tells RNRF that prior to the attack, Panarese demanded prescription pills and proceeded to attack Kathy and Samantha with a hammer. Kathy sustained severe injuries to the skull and injuries to other extremities - Samantha sustained a broken arm and bruising, according to unconfirmed reports.
That same source says that Panarese and Samantha have a child in common and that Perkins is on probation for a domestic violence against her own mother. Perkins has also faced charges of domestic violence against Panarese, but those charges were eventually dropped.
Officials say the investigation continues at this time.

Half of the story is the age difference between them, that should be a red flag about mental stability on any family members part. The other half is intervention. Hopefully none of the kids were from him.
FYI….I live in Silverthorn and as for the community being in shock…no one is discussing it. We are playing golf and going about our day. The only ones discussing this are the press hungry for a story. You ought to report how every TV news crew in Tampa Bay bombarded the front entrance to Silverthorn last night blocking the view of drivers trying to enter Barclay. Stopping residents as we left and came in seeking comment. Get a life! Secondly it wasn’t a home invasion…it was a domestic dispute..get your reporting correct.
The sheriff’s office called it a home invasion. We reported that the victims knew the intruder and that it was drug related.
So apparently this victim Samantha can’t keep her hands to herself either. Wouldn’t that violate her probation if she has contact with her mom. Hmmmmm…I think this story isn’t over yet.

I am a resident of Silverthorn and attended a very informative and well presented meeting with the Sheriff and his Captain this evening held in the community center. I thank the Sheriff for taking time this evening to address this issue so important to our community and to put residents at ease. In my opinion the Sheriff is a man of integrity who puts the people of this county first and I am very proud to have him leading the HSCO and cannot praise his professionalism and the manner in which he handled this incident enough.
As for the Silverthorn HOA board and property manager I am beyond disgusted and tonight questioning my decision to put so much money into this development with the building of my home. It appears as though according to a resident who spoke domestic disputes have been an ongoing issue at this residence. A visitor to the home apparently even fell asleep in the car under the influence of alcohol. It also appears as though these concerns were raised with the property manager who virtually shrugged off all of the concerns. It also appears as though fines have been levied against this property owner and her reply according to the board has been “small change”. Obviously these people are low class and if their behavior and actions are causing chaos in the neighborhood and now putting residents in danger, the HOA board need to do more then levy fines and shrug this off. The response was to the effect we do not have the authority to force homeowners to leave the development. You do have the authority however to change HOA bylaws and possibly imply a lien for such threatening behavior. You have the authority videotape domestic disturbances and turn them over to the Sheriff’s office. Furthermore elderly residents residing in that area are afraid to leave their homes now. An 87 year old widow a few houses away is afraid to go outside of her home. Investing the amount of money we as homeowners have invested and paying the HOA dues we render every quarter, we should not have to live like this. The property manager stated tonight that we have access control guards at the gate so we don’t have security in Silverthorn? When I moved here we had a guard at the gate 24/7 who patrolled the area during the evening. Now the guard is 6am-10pm The back gates are left open from 6am-10pm without a guard at the gate. Where’s the security? In addition for the HOA board to allow their property manager to speak to residents the way he did this evening is beyond me. In the business world you do not speak to your employer in the tone and manner in which this man did. It was unbelievable and embarrassing. The responses to these residents who have to live with this trash was unreal. Diplomacy, understanding and concern were not shown by this board or property manager. It was like a challenge match. This board and property manager work for the residents of Silverthorn and need to be reminded of that.

Quite frankly I posted the information I posted regarding Silverthorn’s security to embarrass the management and HOA of this subdivision. Since the HOA board runs this subdivision like a monarchy and the minimum wage access control guards and property manager walk around like CEO’s I thought I would use the media to get the point across with hopes that Gulf Associa…the HOA Board and other residents are reading my comments. As for security guards at the front gate, they are not security guards. They are access control guards and to be quite frank primarily older fat slobs. If I had to depend on one of them for security if my house is being robbed, I am jumping out the window and taking my chances. As for the readers comment something to the effect lots of money no brains, I do have money, enough money to rent out my paid in full home and buy cash into another gated community so as for the reputation of this community or property values, there’s an ass for every seat and I’ll rent this place high dollar and go into another community. You are controlled by your HOA, told what you can and can’t do, have to prove who you are every time you leave or return to your “access CONTROL guards”, do exactly as you’re told or be PENALIZED, and or CHARGED when you do different. Silverthorn resident, I agree with the body of your letter.After having just registered our vehicles that was required, well—Hire a security firm that will man the gates and patrol as needed.All cars coming in will be (lightly)screened and given a temporary permit to display on their dashboard.Any vehicles that seem suspicious,will be scanned for a resident owner,if not found,and,without a permit, TOWED! It is a easy start,and if our fees increase,so be it. Also,I think a house “cleaning” is in order as our HOA employees have become rather complacent
