Central, Nature Coast Win Season Openers

Bears stun Eagles on last second heroics
Albon Jones blocked Parker Knight’s 40-yard field goal attempt, scooping up the loose ball and taking it all the way for the score as time expired, helping Central beat Springstead by a score of 13-7, Friday night.
The Bears (1-0, 0-0 5A-7), got on the board first behind a De’Vonta Smith 32-yard touchdown run. The Junior running back paced the Central offense tallying 161 yards and that score on 26 carries.
The Eagles (0-1, 0-0 6A-6) looked much improved from the team that dropped two exhibition contests, but still were unable to come away with a victory. The Springstead offense was only able to muster 61 yards on 36 carries, but quarterback Jordan Wright finished 13-of-16 through the air for 169 yards and a touchdown.
Springstead hosts Hernando (0-1, 0-0 5A-7) Friday night at 7:30pm
Central hosts Ridgewood (1-0, 0-0 5A-8) Fright night at 7:30pm
Smith’s Three Scores lead Sharks past Seminoles
DeShawn Smith scored three times and ran for 124 yards on 19 carries as Nature Coast beat Bradenton Southeast 27-16 Friday Night. Despite being outgained 335-198 in terms of total offense, the Sharks (1-0, 0-0 5A-7) used timely plays on the defensive end to escape with victory.
Nature Coast’s defense tallied four sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery and used big plays on defense to stall each of the Seminoles first three drives which all ended in Sharks territory.
Kevin Johnson, the Bradenton Southeast quarterback, tallied 30 carries against the Sharks, rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
