Week 7 of the High School football season is upon us, and now it is time to start the home stretch. The pretenders have fallen from the pack, the top dogs have emerged, and in the middle are a bunch of teams jockeying for position. Welcome to Pigskin Prophets where Derek J. LaRiviere and myself break down all the high school football action for Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties. New this week, gone are the messy columns that you, the reader, didn’t like and replacing it is a table so you can easily follow who we selected! Be sure to follow the prophets on twitter, and take us on in the comments with your selections!
Game of the Week: Weeki Wachee (4-2) at Nature Coast (5-0) 7:30pm
Aiello Jr: Nature Coast, 28-21
LaRiviere: Nature Coast, 35-20
Derek’s Breakdown: When the Hornets are running all cylinders, they have been one of the most potent offenses in the district, but there have been signs of inconsistency all season. Meanwhile, Nature Coast avoids that inconsistency by leaning on star tailback DeShawn Smith, who is on pace to smash numerous team and county records. The Sharks have a stranglehold on the district right ow, and that should continue on Friday Night.
Danny’s Breakdown: Nature Coast is the class of the district, and coming off a bye week. That should lead to extra planning against a Weeki Wachee team fighting for a playoff spot. As good as Weeki Wachee has looked, this will be a true measuring stick as to where they stand against a playoff bound team. For the Hornets to have a chance they will need to contain Smith, and QB Alec Cromie will have to shred the Sharks through the air.
Byes: Springstead (1-4), Sunlake (6-0), Pasco (3-3)
OVERALL RECORDS (LAST WEEK): Aiello Jr: 52-29 (8-4), LaRiviere 57-24 (9-3)

Nature Coast all the way.
