SPRING HILL – The “Grinch” literally stole Christmas.
Around 8:00 a.m. this morning Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the U.S. Post Office located at 7341 Spring Hill Drive, after reports of a commercial burglary.
Officials haven’t released a full report but according to sources, burglars may have broke into the El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant, crawled over the firewall and down into the Post Office.
There are unconfirmed reports that packages and letters were stolen during the heist, but the number of packages is unknown.
We spoke to U.S. Postal Inspector Tim Roth who confirmed the burglary but couldn’t provide many details.
RNRF is waiting for a full report from the U.S. Postal Service and local officials on the incident.
It is not known if investigators have made an arrest or if there are person(s) of interest.
The Post Office is currently closed.
We will bring more on this story as it develops.

Isn’t this the same restaurant that was selling Marijuana out
of the back door?
Right across the street from the Sheriff’s sub-station!
The large scale pot thing was several years and owners ago before the sub station was set up. The sub station is just a place for deputies to go write reports or make telephone contact with HQ.
Yes, but that was yrs.ago. Sheriff’s sub station wasn’t there back then smart one.
the sheriffs sub station wasnt there and they were only storing it there not selling out the backdoor.. I was working there as a dishwasher when it happened. I remember stocking the tortilla cases with the black tape. If only I knew it was large sums of cash and cannabis. Maybe better I didnt. Also the owner would bring in a 1 kilo block every few weeks from Mexico. My sister was also dating his step son at time which I found out a couple weeks ago is back in jail. I remember going to the two story house. Was always a super nice guy. Problem was the manager tried to buy meth at the chinese restaurant at the time in the berkley manor plaza from undercover vice which opened up a huge investigation. The family ran into issues. The daughter died young and his cousin got busted with 20lbs of dro on springhill drive shortly after..
You know there is a ethical way to get things it’s call a JOB, Now you ruined Christmas for those who really need thoses gifts and gifts where taken from loved ones that were sent to families. Just hope you spend Christmas in jail to the low lide scums that want the free handouts ohhh yea and to support your nasty drug habits. NO RESPECT FOR THESE LOW LIFES.
Ditto! I agree 200%…
It\s a federal offense. How stupid can people get?!
Yea but these idiots think that Federal Prison is better than county jail.
you would think the post office has cameras being a government facility….smh
Have you been inside the work floor of this P.O. to know there are no cameras?? Why are you assuming there aren’t any…??? And HOW would you know if there is or there isn’t any? HOW would you have that information?? Ummm…can anyone say red flag ??
Madea I don’t think it is a red flag,re Malibu Mom, just a simple statement, I was thinking the same thing, Chill, the only red flag I see is on mailboxes, up for when you have outgoing mail. Wow.
A few years ago while my wife and I were dining in there I went to the men’s room and when I passed by the kitchen there were a couple of people smoking while they they were cooking. I mentioned it to the waitress and when she came back she said that they weren’t smoking. I haven’t been back since and I never will.
Over a few years, lots of things can happen. Sure you may have seen that, but I can assure you that is not the way it is now with the new owner. The food is delicious and the employees are remarkable.
A lot of things happen over the course of a few years. Sure you may have seen that, but that is definitely not the way the new owners work. The food is amazing and the employees are remarkable. You are really missing out if you plan to never come back.

I just sent out packages for a charity winner.. fingers crossed!… have to check tracking numbers when I get home!
I assure you that if you mailed them out from that P.O. they are safely out in the mail stream. They DON’T hold/retain outgoing mail. Each day, everything that comes through that front window, and that comes through the mail chutes, goes out on their last dispatch truck. It is NOT held back. So it would NOT have been there overnight to have been stolen. The pkgs this story is referring to are the inbound pkgs adressed to the P.O. Box customers who have boxes at that location. I for one have a P.O. box there, but I had just checked my mail there at 6pm last night…so I had retrieved all mine, and pkgs too. The Box customers personal mail and pkgs that are awaiting p/u that would have been the target for this crime. NOT outbound pkgs.
inside job… by illegals
Maybe Spring Hill is a sanctuary city…..
For clarification, Spring Hill is not a city, but Hernando County is still listed as a sanctuary county. Sure would like to know how that happened and get it changed.
This news is wrong about they use the Mexican Restaurant to break in to the postal office, is totally wrong!!! I’m the new owner of the Mexican Restaurant and this new is completely wrong please make sure get right information before to post something like that 😤😤
It is speculation. That is why it says “may have.”
Yes you right 😊
ouch ….hint as to HIT HERE given by busted window on post office next to mex joints front door for several just passed days………………..nice?
It’s been broke for weeks. And it’s not the P.O. place to pay for it. The owner of the plaza has to replace it. The P.O.just leases the space there.
Should’ the fire wall go all the way up with no way to get over it ??
every one that i have built does, all the way up. it has to and the plans show it. unless they allow partial fire walls, NOT!!!
Shouldn’t the US Post Office be a free-standing building with better security? Yes.
Shouldn’t there be a real Post Office on the east-side (I-75 area, just a little one)
without a consignment shop or massage parlor (as in the past) inside? Yes.
Mabel, the answer to your 1st question is YES. The answer to your 2nd question is those stations out there off I-75 are called ‘contract stations’ that are NOT owned nor operated by postal employees, but by the people who own/operate them. These people just provide the basics of postal services…that’s it.
Idiots!!
Dont u know how many millions of dollars of prescription meds are sent thru the USPS MAIL. Its the area and the fn zipcode! Wake the F-up!
I got 13000 thousand off this heist. I’m all the way up north . No catching this one.
