Escaped Prisoner Steals County Truck, Captured in Withlacoochee State Forest

UPDATE: 7:42 P.M. – Officials say Trutt is an inmate at a Lake City facility and was working in Gilchrist County on a work-release program when he fled.

According to the Florida Dept. of Corrections website, Trutt is serving a 19-month sentence for Burglary and theft of a Firearm. Trutt was set to be released this October.

BROOKSVILLE – An escaped prisoner out of Gilchrist County is in custody after Sheriff’s Deputies cornered him on a hiking trail off Croom Road.

There are unconfirmed reports that 20-year-old Tyler Michael Trutt stole a Gilchrist County pickup truck and fled into Hernando County. Deputies were able to pinpoint Trutt’s position through cell phone pings and with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Office Air Unit, Trutt and the stolen pickup truck were located off Twin Pond Road.

Trutt has a long criminal history in Hernando County, including battery, burglary, resisting arrest and a weapons charge.

It’s unknown at this time what facility in Gilchrest County Trutt escaped from or what charges he currently faces.

  1. go ahead and trash talk the guy but we are all working to pay for his food his medical his roof over his head his clothing, free education, and so forth. for some one that has nothing, he gets all that and than some at our expense. thankful the sheriff took over for cca hernando county. they would have pizza parties rent movies and occasionally let an inmate go grab some cold ones and smokes. talk about having it tough..lol aside from all lake city c.i. is the loony dorm housing .. psych city gladiator camp

  2. WHO LEFT THE KEYS IN THE TRUCK,?? Trusting soul ya think?? OH THAT’S RIGHT, THEY ARE ON WORK RELEASE BECAUSE THEY WERE PLAYING TIDLY WINKS ON THE SIDEWALK. GOT IT!!
