SPRING HILL – Spring Hill Elementary was placed on a brief lockdown this morning, after a woman allegedly threatened several people with a hatchet and baseball bat in front of the school.
We spoke to witness, Jennifer Pardy who says she noticed a woman armed with a hatchet and baseball bat, running in and out of traffic on Mariner Blvd, purposely trying to get hit. Pardy says one vehicle stopped to help the woman but when she tried to get in her car they sped off. Pardy believes the woman appeared to be under the influence or suffering from some kind of mental health condition, due to her bizarre and violent behavior. According to Pardy, there was a young girl who appeared to be in the woman’s company but she disappeared before deputies arrived on scene.
There were no injuries reported but the woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
It is not known at this time if the woman will face charges once she is released from the hospital.
The school was only on lockdown for about 10 minutes, according to a spokesperson for Hernando County Schools, and there were were no injuries to students or bystanders.
