A 51 year old man, Stephen Quarles, was driving westbound on Woodland Waters Blvd in a Black BMW when Deputy Brunet, who was off duty and driving his personal vehicle, came up from behind and then passed Mr. Quarles. Then Mr. Stephen Quarles began to aggressively tailgate Deputy Brunet’s vehicle to the point that Deputy Brunet pulled off the road to let Mr. Quarles pass. Instead of moving on, Mr. Quarles then pulled up next to Deputy Brunet and yelled that he was going to blow Deputy Brunet’s head off. At this point, Deputy Brunet, realizing Mr. Quarles was impaired, identified himself, stopped Mr. Quarles, and then requested a traffic unit for assistance. Upon arrival, the traffic unit asked Mr. Quarles to complete a field sobriety test which indicated he was impaired. Mr. Quarles advised the deputies that he had drank a pint of whiskey before driving. The BMW was turned over to the passenger of the vehicle and Mr. Quarles was arrested and taken to the Hernando County Jail. At the jail a breath test was performed and failed. Bond was set at $500 for the DUI offense.
