BROOKSVILLE – Some good news to report tonight, after a trapped kitten was rescued from a storm drain at the intersection of Cortez Blvd and Mariner Blvd.
According to sources, a Hernando County Animal Control Officer responded to the intersection and tried to access the kitten but soon realized it was out of reach. The only way to access the kitten was have Fire Rescue respond and remove the steel grate from the drain. Once the grate was removed, the Officer stepped down into the drain and located the kitten hiding in a small crevice under the roadway. The kitten was quickly removed and placed in a pet carrier.

Great job. Thank you. God Bless all.
How did they know a cat was down there?
IceMan, people walk the crosswalks in the area and kitten meows very loudly when frightened. Someone must have heard and cared.
That is what I was thinking Iceman
As an owner/grandmeowther of 6 fur babies bless the Fire Rescue workers for muscling that grate !!! For animal control officer - you went above and beyond the call of duty also. Climbing into a storm drain meant not being sure what else might be there but still you weren’t worried about dirt, grime, human’s garbage, etc. Just wish some of your coworkers were as diligent about loose dogs in my neighborhood as you were about rescuing kitten. A special prayer for this officer from 6 fur babies & 1 crazy cat lady. When you reach heaven you will receive sandpaper kisses & kneading dough massages.
