Man Tased After Arming Himself with Screwdriver, Meth Likely Cause Of Odd Behavior

SPRING HILL – A Port Richey man is behind bars this evening, after he armed himself with a screwdriver during an incident with Sheriff’s Deputies yesterday afternoon.

According to officials, Deputies responded Forest Oaks Plaza, located at the corner of Forest Oaks Blvd and Commercial Way, after reports of a suspicious vehicle. Deputies made contact with the driver, 34-year-old Daniel John Weidensall, who was sitting in an unlicensed, red Ford pickup that was still running. Weidensall refused to make eye contact with deputies, was flailing his arms around, and had trouble sitting still. He also failed to provide Deputies with proper identification.

At some point during the investigation, Weidensall armed himself with a screwdriver and locked himself in the pickup truck. Deputies ordered Weidensall to drop the screwdriver but he refused, forcing deputies to deploy a taser, which allowed them to place him into custody.

A search of the suspect revealed a glass smoking pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine.

Weidensall was cleared medically by Fire Rescue and then transported to the Hernando County Jail.

Weidensall is charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Providing False ID, and Resisting Arrest. He remains behind bars, held on a $3,000 bond.
