Shelter or Sham Domestic Violence Nightmare - RNRF Exclusive Video Report

HERNANDO – RNRF is best known for delivering the fastest and most comprehensive reports on crime, crashes, various disasters, and other local news that matters to the community. But there are times when we’ll investigate and expose unethical or illegal business practices, corrupt Judges or even double talking politicians. What you will not get from RNRF is an apology for telling the truth.

Well, we’ve done it again; so if you’re one of those political correct puppets, or “Can’t handle the truth” as actor Jack Nicholson so eloquently stated in the 1992 mega hit, A Few Good Men, then PLEASE do not watch the following RNRF Exclusive Report.

Now, there will be those who attack me personally once this report is viewed, but keep in mind, RNRF does not have an “agenda” as some would say – not at all – rather, we have a passion for exposing injustice, even when the PC Police arrest and convict us in public opinion court.

If anyone has an agenda, it’s the board members, administrators, and blossoming politicians who use the organization (Subject of our report) as a resume builder for future endeavors.

Oh and let’s get one thing straight… Unlike certain media outlets that go on virtual witch hunts to crucify law enforcement – you won’t find that here. RNRF is a strong supporter of law enforcement, which is clearly evident in our past reporting.

So, now I don my lifejacket and prepare for the onslaught of name calling, mudslinging, false accusations, and possibility even a few threats of bodily harm.

There is one thing for sure, after all is said and done, this reporter can sleep at night.

    1. Other accusations made by several former occupants were that “staff took the good stuff and gave the rest to the residents” The report would have been too long to include all of the complaints in detail.

  1. “Oh and let’s get one thing straight… Unlike certain media outlets that go on virtual witch hunts to crucify law enforcement – you won’t find that here. RNRF is a strong supporter of law enforcement, which is clearly evident in our past reporting.” Quoting you Tom…..And Tom sorry but this is exactly why my friends atty. Would not allow you to talk to her because you are a sherriffs office sympathizer and you think they are Gods. No worries though Channel 8 is sharing the story 10/23. Ive seen the interview and it is good. Will you continue to cowtail to HCSO or will you share the story and let the chips fall.

    1. I have no idea what story you are talking about Montybaby, but understand, I said I am a strong supporter of law enforcement I did not say anything about the political end of law enforcement or any specific law enforcement agency. And I will not apologize for supporting law enforcement. Anyone who doesn’t worries me.

  2. Good reporting Tom. This is clearly another case of the citizens of Hernando County in the dire need of having competent political leaders, not the current clowns who are self serving there own agendas. Unless the voters get off there ass and elect commissioners who have a history of producing valuable results, we are left with messes such as this. The sheriffs hands in a sense are tied as to what his staff can really do and based on his past interactions with the commissioners, I don’t see a strong team effort to combat this waste of public funds. Remember Nick Nicholson episode with a prostitute and his involvement with the drug network in our community, if he didn’t recognize the problem with his nose stuck in it, how can he command the leadership to eradicate this problem?

  3. I’ve also heard that the residents at the shelter has to share anything they get with their food stamps or WIC with everyone at the shelter. Once staff was told they weren’t able to do that and that those benefits were meant for that specific client, they stopped bringing them to appointments. When they did offer transportation it was only on Wednesdays at 10 am. I feel bad for these women who need a safe environment for themselves and children. They were brave to leave in the first place and the others using it as a halfway house or compromising the facility should be ashamed of stop being so selfish! Thank you for bringing this to our attention Tom!

  4. Good report Tom, I agree and also support law enforcement to a point, but also as members of the community we to have to work and do our part in fixing and exposing the issues that are taking place in our community. Thank you for stepping up and doing what is right, now if we can only get our community to do the same.

  5. i am glad this is all coming out, people need to know what is going on, however, it is meant to be a secure location where they can go and not be found by their abuser and you not only showed the facility so people can identify when they see it but you also showed all the neighboring properties so now everyone knows exactly where it is. Has this video put people who are hiding from their abusers at risk?

    1. We did not provide an address or street name and the visual behind my standup is a white fence with a playground behind it. There are hundreds of locations that look identical to that scene. In addition, it is the residents of the facility that are letting everyone know where it is located not RNRF.

  6. I have been there many, many times , it’s a $hithole, you can’t tell the “employees ” from the residents…they are always fighting over drugs, cigarettes, pain meds etc.

  7. Pay attention to the video, much of it was cut out !! Why ?? What are you hiding ???? If this is the truth of what’s going on, then why would you cut the conversation….

    1. If you understand anything about video editing, which it appears that you do not, then you know an editor removes all the “ums” and long pauses between comments. Otherwise the video would be two hours long. If you doubt the legitimacy of the report then feel free to contact the subjects of the interview or review my sources. I will be glad to provide those to you.

  8. Montybaby there’s only one type of person that’s anti law enforcement. People without accountability. Have you and your friends tried not breaking the law?

  9. Excellent report as always
But can someone start a gofundmepage for montybaby
California would love to have him for their drougt
WE KNOW WHAT YOUR FEELINGS ARE TOWARD OUR LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY you repeated enough to were it seems to be habitual and sometimes aggressively in nature
Most will wake up in the morning after like it never happened

  10. @ Eskimo boat, im not anti law enforcement . I am anti CROOKED law enforcement. I dont break the law. LETS SEE in the past 60 years Ive been arressted ZERO TIMES. And yes Im an old fart that sets my cruise so I don’t even get speeding tickets. Now tell me about your accountability.

  11. I mainly hear of them turning g away women in need unless they have been beat. And an idea …how about the women staying there be responsible for cleaning ??? Poor management

  12. Just chill Monty thats is all I ask until it is time
But everybody here would rather have something be done about the problem at hand
Until everyone votes on same page it will remain or worsen
remember the government hates a strong and smart Opponent

  13. Keep sticking your neck out Tom, the people here appreciate the great local news. I’m learning a lot about more from you than the newspapers ever produced. Thanks

  14. Most of everything in each of these reports or either lies or truths blown completely out of proportion. Here is the trust of the Dawn Center which will probably be deleted. Dawn Center has never asked a victim to use her food stamps or wic for anything but her own self and children. DC gets food donations of pasta and sauce, cheddar potatoes, and sometimes bread and pastries from restaurant or grocery stores. It IS ALL given to the woman and children EVERY night when the DC prepares the dinner. DC does not drug test, nor does it search a victim or their children. DC does not search their rooms either. When DC receives clothing donations, they are put out for all victims to go through and take whatever they want before an employee can pay for an article. Yes pay for it and the money is considered a donation and goes back into the DC. DC does not tell a victim when she can leave or come back nor who she associates with. All victims are asked not to share the whereabouts of the shelter with anyone and must walk a certain distance to be picked up to insure the protection of the address. EMS has been called to the DC for sickness, withdrawals, and any other reason that the victim ask for. DC does not do background checks on victims. Victims of domestic battery and or sexual assault have been controlled and victimized already when they get to shelter. DC allows victims to live in the shelter as it is their home making their own decisions and judgements. There is no cleaning company that goes in and helps. Many phone calls are exchanged with law enforcement because almost all of the time it is law enforcement that is has been a huge asset to bringing the victims to the secured location of the DC. Please remember that the DC is a place for abused women/men and children to seek refuge not judgement.

    1. Monique Carter you have just described the problem as a whole. To those who are concerned with the way the shelter operates, they say their should be rules and regulations to use the facility. It should not be temporary housing for anyone without question. If what you are saying is true, then don’t you think drug abusers alcoholics, thieves and violent abusers would take advantage of the free housing? Its just common sense. Taxpayers didn’t sign up to pay for a no questions asked halfway house disguised as a safe haven for abused women. I guess that’s why the Dawn Center has had nearly 200 responses from law enforcement in one year compared our neighboring county that has twice the population but only had 14 responses from law enforcement. Don’t you think that is a problem? Are you really okay with the status quo? Oh, and in your last line you stated that the DC helps abused women/men and children… DC does not help men and neither does the other 41 shelters in Florida. Although their policy disclaimer says otherwise, their are no resources for abused men. We’ve already done a story on that issue.

  15. Seriously, someone should be held accountable, and make sure the place is utilized as intended. Turn it around before it’s too late, after all the place if run properly IS NEEDED.

  16. I know 2 girls who were helped tremendously by this place. They got bikes to ride and job interviews set up for them then jobs. And the reason the cops go there so often is cause that’s were the desperate woman are. They prey on them. The place does a good job. Go down there and donate. There’s kids there too you know.

  17. What your report led to was the fact that women being abused have no where to turn. The victims of violent abuse are not being served, why is this woman still in the position she is in if she is not helping those that desperately need help?

  18. Sounds like the reporter is a typical sensationalist. Blowing events up to create controversy. Only focusing on the negative while neglecting the positive. He can cite sources all day, that back up his perspective. Objectivity is the true barometer of truth.

  19. The reporter is missing the point. His anger and overall defensive nature is an example how the media does not want to be questioned. The public should just take what they say at face value? The content of this article is sensitive and should be discussed. However, the positive aspects of the center need to part of the conversation.

    1. Carwash Kid, The “media” i.e. RNRF, is just reporting what numerous complainants are saying about the center, not to mention the mountains of evidence that we included in the report. I am not angry at all but the community is. And as far as a “discussion,” the Dawn Center has refused to answer one single question over the last two years. We have NEVER attacked the Dawn Center, that is not our job. There could and should be a positive aspect with the Dawn Center, if they would acknowledge that problems exist, be transparent, and correct the issues. Instead, they just attack RNRF for questioning them.

  20. Disappointed in you Tom.. Any reporter that would give the whereabouts to a secure location in a news article is wrong! Do you realize how many life’s you endanger by doing that or does it not matter to you! Shaking my head. One of the worst things I have ever seen in journalism. It looks like the real corrupt one is you!
