Street Flooding, Downed Trees, Power Lines, No Major Damage Reported

REGIONAL – Hurricane Hermine left a trail of destruction across much of the Big Bend area with 6 to 12 foot of storm surge, damaged property, and thousands left without power.

The tri-county area fared better than expected, with no major damage reported to officials so far.

There are still several flooded roadways along the coast in Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus Counties but most major roadways are passable at this time.

The saturated soil is causing trees and utility poles to give way and some sink holes have already been reported.

The Sheriff’s Office is reporting that some residents were evacuated by boat on Minnow Creek Drive in Hernando Beach, after water entered ground level homes.

As of 8:30 a.m. this morning, officials were reporting at least 4,000 customers without power.

There have been no reports of serious injury or death in the tri-county area, however, one fatality was reported in Marion County, after a tree fell on a homeless man.

Rain is expected to continue for the next several days as the system draws moisture out of the Gulf of Mexico, across central Florida.
