Two Caged Dogs Burn Alive After Explosion Inside Suspected Drug Dealer’s Home

PORT RICHEY (PASCO) – Law Enforcement Officers are all too familiar with the dangers of Methamphetamine production, especially in residential areas, but an explosion inside a home on Westport Drive earlier this month turn out to be the result of a different kind of drug production, and the suspect is still at large.

According to Pasco County Officials, on September 3rd Fire Rescue responded to 6210 Westport Drive after reports of an explosion. Fire completely destroyed the home but the owner was nowhere to be found. During an investigation it was determined that the homeowner, 24-year-old Steven Brown, had blown up his house, while attempting to manufacture Butane Hash Oil (BHO), also known as Marijuana Wax. Investigators say when the explosion occurred Brown grabbed his drugs and fled the home, leaving two dogs caged inside the residence to perish in the fire. A 1-year old child was also present at the time of the explosion but it is believed that the child escaped without injury.

On September 9th, direct file warrants were issued for Brown’s arrest. The same day Brown was nearly apprehended during a traffic stop but he was able to evade arrest.

Officials say Brown is driving a white 2016 Kia Optima EX, 4-door, FL Tag GXSY18, and is considered armed and dangerous.

Brown is wanted on charges of Possession of a Place for Purposes of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, Arson in the first degree, Felonious Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Suboxone, Possession of Oxycodone, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Manufacture of Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana with intent to sell, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and 2-counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.

  1. Ok, just remember if and if someone answers my question, there are no stupid questions = How did all the drugs, guns etc escape the burned up house?? Laid out all nice and neat and clean, everything else burned? Think the baby is safe, do we know that for sure? Dang we are going to hell in a hand basket, very quickly. Very sad. Hope and pray they catch him.

  2. I’m not trying to justify the guys actions but, it says “when the explosion occurred Brown grabbed his drugs and fled the home” . So the 1yr old escaped by him/her self ? Also if he took his drugs with him what evidence did they have to charge him with? Just didn’t make sense to me.

  3. You know Tom, this house was targeted for an armed marijuana robbery in 2014.Mr Brown’s girlfriend shot the intruder twice during the failed attempt. Brown was arrested shortly thereafter for possession of said marijuana. Pot,harmless drug that!🔫

  4. Hmm. I too wonder why the plastic weed bags aren’t melted . a fire of that intensity would no don’t melt them . I mean look at the front of that car!!! Not saying he isn’t responsible for those poor dogs and having a child around he shoulkd be held accountable but something just doesn’t sound right. Maybe the story is missing something? Or it has been misconstrued?

  5. Yes lets heavily punish him for cruelty to animals. Put him in a cage and set him on fire. Then save all trouble of state supporting his dumb ass. He will always waste our system

  6. Who knows maybe he was more worried about saving the life of the child and his own life to worry about the dogs. Not to say he was in the right, but how many of you would rush into a burning building with out proper equipment to rescue two dogs. Not a one I bet.

    1. 1). my pets would never be in cages/crates 2.) he had time to remove other items from the house 3.) the girlfriend/mother of the child was there to remove the child.

He didn’t “rush into a burning building”, he was inside creating the problem that caused the fire. My dogs would come second ONLY to the baby; everything else is unimportant. This guy is just a total piece of sh*t, a waste of resources. Human garbage.

  7. CrackerHacker, where does it say anything about him rescuing the child? How the child got out isn’t mentioned in any of the real news stories either. You seem to know more than anyone else about this situation. Do you know where he’s hiding as well?

Beth, that’s because only about half of the story is printed here. News sources give the exact same information plus more. None say where the baby is but I assume it is with the mother considering she has a Go Fund Me Account now trying to support it…no proof of that tho and IMO, it shouldn’t be. They also never mention where she was when this happened…
