Two Men Charged with Raping Woman Inside Local Bar, Robbery Tied to One Suspect

SPRING HILL – Two men face sexual battery charges after officials say they had sex with an intoxicated woman inside a local bar. But the story doesn’t end there.

On Tuesday morning RNRF reported that deputies were searching for the man responsible for a strong armed robbery that occurred around 6:00 a.m. (ORIGINAL REPORT)

On Tuesday afternoon officials announced that they had made an arrest and that today we would receive a full report.

According to officials, at approximately 4:17 a.m., Hernando County deputies were dispatched to the area of Northcliffe Baptist Church in Spring Hill. The caller says they observed a male subject fleeing the area and found a woman in a nearby field who appeared in distress.

As deputies were on were investigating the original call, 911 dispatchers received a call at approximately 4:52 a.m. from the owner of Best Cleaners & Laundry, located at 4315 Lamson Ave, in reference to a possible attempted burglary.

Officials reviewed surveillance video from earlier that morning which revealed a woman, later identified as the alleged victim located near the church, attempting to kick in the rear door of the business.

The video also showed a man, later identified as 24-year-old Richard Bunyan Mosby Jr. attempting to remove the woman from the area.

That same surveillance video shows Mosby having sex with the woman, prior to her trying to gain entry to the business. Officials say the woman appears to be incapacitated during while Mosby is having sex with her. When the victim regained consciousness, video shows her attempting to enter the business for safety. The video also reveals Mosby trying to lead the woman away from the building, out of range of the video cameras.

During that investigation, another 911 call was received at approximately 6 a.m. by a woman who claimed she had been robbed at the intersection of Lamson Avenue and Hearth Road, a short distance from where the reported sexual battery occurred. The victim says she was walking east on Hearth Road towards the bus stop, when she was attacked by the same man [Richard Mosby] suspected of raping the first victim.

The victim claims that Mosby knocked her to the ground and strangled her to unconsciousness. After regaining consciousness, the victim claims she fought back and was able to scratch Mosby’s mouth. Mosby fled the area with the victim’s cell phone and other miscellaneous property. With the assistance of K-9, Mosby was located hiding in a rubber container inside the garage of 4276 Goldcoast Ave. Mosby was taken into custody without further incident.

During an interview with detectives, the victim from the sexual battery said she did not recall any of the events of the previous night or morning, and that she did not give her consent to have sex with anyone, including Mosby.

The victim recalls going to Delirium Sports Bar & Lounge, located at 4241 Mariner Blvd (Winn Dixie Plaza), where she met Mosby for the first time. She further stated that she does not remember leaving the bar. Bar staff confirmed that the victim, Mosby, and a second suspect, 25-year-old Kurtis Ray Edie, were seen talking and that all three went into the bathroom together on multiple occasions.

Edie denied having sexual contact with the victim but later admitted that he and Mosby had sex with the victim inside the Delirium restroom. Edie told investigators that the victim appeared to be disoriented during the entire sexual encounter and did not have the ability to consent to having sex. Mosby also later confirmed to investigators that he had sex with the victim without her consent on both occasions.

At this time Mosby is charged with Robbery, 2-counts of Sexual Battery, and 2-counts Burglary. He remains behind bars in the Hernando County Jail on a $120,000 bond.

Edie is charged with Sexual battery and is held on a $10,000 bond.

We spoke to an employee of Best Cleaners who declined to show us the surveillance video or comment on the case. But an anonymous source tells RNRF that they viewed the surveillance video and that it appears Mosby and the alleged victim were “engaging in consensual sex.”
